I’ve just looked it up. The Land Rover I remember is almost certainly HUE 166. It is in the museum at Grayson. There were 48 pre-production vehicles built and this one is the fourth one made, R04. It must, therefore, pre-date the one in the Richard Hammond film. It was used from time to time in various sales promotion events and I am sure that it was referred to as ‘Old No.1’. I must make an effort to visit that museum sometime as there is another car that I would like to see if it is housed there. An old friend used to race an ex-works Austin Healey Sprite that was built for the Sebring 12 hour race, driven by the former F1 driver Pedro Rodriguez. Someone took on the restoration but I know nothing since, as my friend died a few years back.
