I actually thought we turned down a bid of £2.5 million for Kitchen from Coventry & put a £ 2 million price on Styles & have held firm , I am hoping these price rejections are actually showing that we have altered & don"t accept the first carrot , although how anyone actually knows what we have accepted when the fee is usually announced as undisclosed anyway .

No one can claim to know the truth as you say Shads but O'Kane in the Chronicle reported a £2.5 mill bid from Coventry for Kitching was turned down, Football League World reporting £3 mill. Early rumours had it at £3.5 mill.

O'Kane also confirmed Styles has a release clause amount in his contract and he understands it to be £2mill. If a buying club meets that and Styles agrees personal terms there is bugger all Barnsley can do abart it. It seems no one has bid £2mill yet or Styles didn't fancy the move to wherever.

Exactly, you are confirming SB the point I am making, it seems we are trying to hang out for better brass ,although turning down the alleged offers for Kitching appears to have affected his form unless it is coincidence , regarding Styles , the valuation of Styles has not been met with Gary Rowett confirming earlier in the summer that Millwall would like him back at the Den but obviously not at £2million ,however unhappy players can cost you on the pitch, but at the end of the day it is the old saying that a player is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay & to be honest I have a degree of sympathy with clubs on this one because if the club sells the usual cry from the fans is that we have sold the player on the cheap but on the other side of the coin if a player is clearly not playing to his best then the fans demand he be moved on which is not always that easy.

A professional footballer, paid by his club, should perform well irrespective of background speculation. Andersen was a good example of this.

Last season didn't work out as Styles hoped when he negotiated his new contract with the release clause in it. Believing the hype surrounding him he had hoped to take the Championship by storm and, as an established Hungarian international, have clubs swarming round at the end of his Millwall loan period. Unfortunately average form and a three month lay off due to injury, has meant his plans didn't work out and he faces the prospect of the Third Division at Barnsley. He should still put in 100% however which doesn't appear to be the case.

I actually think Styles has been one of our better players this season & i have not seen or read anything about his expectations but at the end of the day you are right if no one comes in for him then he will be plying his trade in the third division but the original point was about the club accepting any old bid for our players where I am suggesting that there might have been a change of direction on this policy citing Styles & Kitchen as examples & it is a lot of our fans who seem to think that kitchen"s form has dipped since the transfer speculation from Coventry , I am not saying he has downed tools but it certainly seems to have affected him in some way or other .
