My view is Gladstone Guest was a far better player than either of your comparisons who couldn't even begin to lace his boots, so put that in your pipe and jolly well smoke it.
I never saw Guesty play but grew up hearing the stories about that classic team and undoubtedly the likes of Guest, Ardon, Burke, Grainger and Danny Williams were very much a cut above although I'd imagine that only Ronnie Burke was remotely comparable in terms of the kind of player.
Dave Watson, when he played up front, for us, might be a better comparison and anyone who remembers would tell you that neither Hugill or Smith are a patch on Dave Watson.
They're not my comparisons - I just added my 2 pennorth - it seems strange that everyone is Ok with comparing Hugill and Smith as long as you subscribe to the nonsense about Hugill being better than Smudge but then everyone suddenly had a problem with me comparing them, because I haven't been drinking the Hugill Kool-aid?
