I know that many councils are struggling at the moment due, in part, to both ever decreasing financial support from government and increasing demands across a range of services but, for as long add I can remember, BCC has never had a good reputation. The vast majority of the corruption and back-handers that were almost endemic at one time may have gone but there are still examples of ineptitude. The mis-handling of the equal pay issue and the IT c ock up seem typical and then wasn't there that recent squit over bin men being allowed to continue the pandemic practice of being allowed to finish their shifts early if jobs all done? Very clearly, if they can consistently do tasks in less hours then they should be set more tasks or else not be paid for those non productive hours. Guess, like any business or service -though particularly in the public sector- once it gets too big you start to see bits of empire building when the emphasis seems more about protecting jobs than increasing productivity and service levels.
