We probably should have won, shot ourselves completely in the foot with the goal and the red card, which i didn't see, but I'm not as generous as you guys, I didn't think we deserved to win, I actually thought the performance was pretty poor, I can only recall the goal as a serious attempt on their goal first half, I keep thinking second half at tannadice we will step up a gear and take control, but as yet its not happened, we seem to start well and then it petters out after about 15 mins, and then we only have moments, but we don't seem to be able to take control of a game or dominate at any stage. Red card today obviously changes game, but that's self inflicteWe seem to be banking a lot on Docherty coming back in the team and adding a bit of tempo, thought the middle two struggled at times, though nice cross by Declan Glass for goal, and front 4 again just not doing enough, Moult aside today. Is it the service? I dunno, but it doesn't seem to stick enough and Moult looks isolated at times. Thought McMann did well, and Meekison when he came, Moult battled away, but that wasn't good enough today.

    10 random observations from y'day's game -
    - Waters (#6) in the 1st half had two targeted goes at Cudjoe that went unpunished
    - Moult's game is quite Fletcher-ish but we're still ploughing a lone furrow
    - That looked rather like a penalty for them 2nd half
    - Corner kicks congested & tedious with Broadfoot & Gallacher going at each other
    - Tillson 90 mins with Kai & Archie on the bench?
    - That was a difficult, messy, scrappy game for Munro to referee, Morton being very Imrie-ish
    - The singing section needs a bit more work incl ditch the megaphone, better without
    - 6,900 home fans a good effort, so sad for Heather Hird 33
    - Home games like that might be the norm this season, hold on tight for a hard slog
    - We badly need a flair player, there's a distinct lack of creativity & imagination

Cudjoe neads to wise up fast. Gave the ref the opportunity to send him off. Also Cudjoe has been really poor in the last 2 home games. Am I right in thinking he will miss the next two games?

Really missing an attacking threat in midfield. There is not a single player other than Cudjoe that gives the opposition a headache, but unfortunately he is still missing the final part of being able to take a decent shot or find the correct pass. Hopefully that improves with experience, he is still very raw. TW and GM are too slow for what we need, GM seems completely lacking in confidence. TW doesn't make any off the ball moves and slows down our attacks. Louis Moult looked exhausted after 70 minutes and we seriously run the risk of breaking him before the next transfer window. We are a tidy enough unit but we are definitely missing a bit of spark to our play. I would say that our play was almost pedestrian at times. I think that TW and GM are our square pegs at the moment, we need an injection of pace. Unfortunately, our squad does not really have the depth it needs and we don't really have the players to change a game. I hope that we are already looking at who and what we need to improve for the next window as yesterday's performace highlights that this season will not be a walk in the park. The ref was absolutely honking yesterday, ruined the game and at no point did I think that he had control of the game. He seemed totally out of his depth...he should have had the cards out much earlier and made a rod for his own back by wrongly not giving fouls. The wrestling at the corners was mental, he had already warned the players and watched it happen but crapped out of giving a penalty. Bottled all of the big decisions and the red card seems to have been the linesmans decision. You could see the united players getting frustrated by his lack of control but we really need to get better at managing that because the standard of refs in this league is appalling. If VAR was in use yesterday, there would have been about 5 penalties and 6 red cards!

Everybody’s slagging off the ref and the ‘standards’ in the Championship and whilst I agree, yesterday’s ref was actually FIFA accredited David Munro, supposedly one of our best if you believe it or not.

Seems like that's 2 home matches that ended 1-1 where we failed to play with the intensity and threat needed, and had no real answers on how to win the game.

When Watt and Middleton were subbed off v Dunfermline and Fotheringham and Glass came on we looked better and finally got the goal that earned an unlikely looking point.

What seems obvious is that Glass with Watt AND Middleton doesn't work. Surely after the draw against Dunfermline Fotheringham should have started v Morton in place of Middleton?

A jigsaw that Jim Goodwin needs to solve pretty fast.

I still think that we were on top when the goal came, which was nothing but an error on our part to gift the equaliser, the red card made it more difficult to bounce back to get a winner

Can forgive the error as both have been very solid for us so far

We weren't at our best but should see a difference when we have Docherty and Sibbald in the side at home, with Glass ahead of them and maybe Fotheringham or Watt on the left until Middleton ups his game

Saying that was a good tackle from their cb to stop Middleton with that great ball over the top at 1-0

At 1-0 you're never safe in any match and the defensive mix up (which can happen at any level) wouldn't have been an issue if we had shown the intensity and ability to get the 2-0 lead. We didn't.

I rhink we tried too hard to control the game at 1-0 instead of trying to kill them off. Morton were very poor but we gave them too much time to organise themselves. We need to play faster and more aggressively in attack. What we are doing is predictable and pedestrian.
