If the result had gone 48-52 the other way, there's not a chance that the Leave camp would have said "oh, well, that's democracy, we're now going to put all our energies into making remaining in the EU work better. We'll never mention it again, and we certainly won't be difficult or awkward."

Back then, Mr Farage was in full agreement with you:

Anyway it is old news, and the shame is that the defeated side, didn't get behind the result of the democratic decision, to make for a much smoother transition.

So you expect those who thought Brexit was fundamentally wrong and that "the country would be f00ked" if it happened to support what they didn't believe in once the result was announced. But if the reverse happened in a general election you would suffer it until you got the chance to overturn it.

Newish Pie nobody is asking Remainers to 'fix', in your words Brexit, just don't keep throwing obstacles in the way at every turn to make the divorce unnecessarily difficult.

What made it difficult was Brexiters not having a clue what they wanted and not having a plan of how to get there.

Remainers stopped them breaking the law (thanks, Gina Miller) but the rest was all Brexiters themselves. They'd spent so much of the campaign telling people there were no hard choices to be made about Brexit that when those hard choices came anyway, they didn't have a clue what to do.

That’s incorrect I was living and working in Germany at the time and I had a vote… and if you want to know I’d set my mind to vote remain but voted leave… if you wants know the reasons why I’ll tell you later (short on time) but it’s probably not a reason you would expect!

So I had been living and working outside Frankfurt for about five years, life was good, home, wages all the pluses of being in the EU combined with meeting some very special and amazing European and non European friends that remain that now. I was working somewhere with at the time a combined total of 32 (if I remember correctly) different nationalities from all around the world. So along comes Brexit and as there were only 5 of us Brit’s within a total of just over 200 employees the subject of Brexit was a hot topic with everyone. So, I’m happy with life and primed to vote remain, then as the vote date got nearer I was getting visits from quite a few different people about Brexit and how I was going to vote, mainly from Germans, French, Italians Belgians, Polish etc. ultimately the question would come up on how I was going to vote, on hearing that I was going to vote remain without a shadow of doubt everyone said I must vote to come out as when / if they get the chance they would vote to come out. It was really interesting (particularly from the Italians) on how the EU had impacted them and their families particularly with illegal immigration, and lack of work etc. it had a big impact on me, and made me realize that all is not well in the EU and there are a large percentage who given the chance would get out asap and all is not rosy as people living in the UK were thinking at the time and given time the whole thing will implode. Do I think I made the right choice, well I live by the mantra ‘you always do what you think was right at the time, and I still think it’s right, I speak to friends on the continent a lot and the feelings are still the same, Germany is even worse off now, countries like Poland are sticking two fingers up at the EU and won’t abide to European law, what made me laugh at the time was that some peoples reasoning for stopping in the EU were solely based on having cheaper roaming charges and that they would miss out on European travel rail cards all is not as rosy as people think with the residents of Europe just don’t think everyone is happy with it, as given a choice there’s a lot that would change it.

BTW: I really miss living in Germany, their way of life and how things are focused on people and family life and protecting workers is something we could learn from, sadly I think we are way past that point and could never pull it back.

Very interesting post keldsyke, from someone with first hand experience of how people in Europe feel about the EU. What the hell is wrong with countries having their own identities and trying to do the best for their people, while remaining on good business terms with other countries.

It's really great you had the freedom to go and live and work in the EU and gain such wonderful life experience.
