Starmer always wanted to be Blair but needed to be Corbyn to get to the leadership. Corbyn was an idealist who was happy to be in opposition, but true to his beliefs. Starmer is pragmatic, knowing that you can't change anything without being in power (something Blair understood too, but relatively few labour leaders do). I think that he has largely quietened down the left as the party is ahead in the polls. I don't think he has healed the splits long term though, and they will come back in time. In the same way, some leader will bring the Tories back under control at some point (and as a party they are much better at doing that) ad the roles will be reversed.

With all these factions it is almost like the worst aspects of Proportional Representation without the benefits. At the moment small factions in both main parties hold significant influence, but it is neither proportional or representative. Going to a proper Proportional Representative system would really help and it is about time we caught up with modern democracies.

Don’t think RS or KS would ever have the balls to try bring in PR

Polls don't mean a great deal though just look at the Brexit polls. The thought of Starmer, Rayner, Thornberry and Lammy being in power gives me the shivers!!!

RS is so cornered by the right of his party, that he may just as a means to limit their power a bit. Starmer may do when the left raise their heads again... but I doubt it as it's too late by then.

Brexit polling was pretty good. It was very close and that means margins of error can start swinging the result. But most polls in the run up to the referendum showed Leave would win.

Funny how you could get about 4-1 with the bookies then for a Leave victory.

I didn't see any poles that thought leave would win or any bookmaker either?

Why should Poles know about polls any more than the rest?

There were definitely several polls showing the leave campaign ahead before the vote, because they made me back leave with the bookies.

Starmer has already rejected it, despite it being voted for at the Labour Party conference....so at least he's consistent in being anti-democratic, rejecting party votes and preferring disproportional representation (let's call that DR)
