Are people really going down a ‘disrespect’ route and taking a moral position on this?

Did he know he would be transferred when he was betting… almost certainly not.

Did he know an investigation was on-going when he was transferred… very unlikely, as the investigations will build their evidence without tipping off suspects then bring them in… as the Italian FA have done with multiple players at once.

Does his betting mean we should be writing him off and not giving him a chance because it means he is not the right character for the club…

I f**king hope not unless people are being complete hypocrites OR they also say Trippier is not the right kind of person for the club.

Trippier was guilty of betting while at Spurs after his move to Athletico, he was even found guilty of encouraging friends to bet on his move to Athletico… so unless people are fine with this happening elsewhere, just as long as it isn’t ‘to us’, or think we should write Tonali off as a bad case but are happy to forgive Tripps his former misdemeanours (which he committed a lot older than Tonali) then maybe rein the rhetoric in a bit eh.

It’s disrespect to English football because he’s used our club, our league, our wealth and even our country. He’s used them all to help out AC Milan. Doesn’t seem he’s come here for football reasons, or even personal financial reasons. It’s a very strange situation.

He’s let everyone down and he’s done it knowingly. How can the other players forgive him?
Trippier was banned for 10 weeks for betting.. the players shouldn't forgive him.. he disrespected English football etc etc..

People make mistakes.. Joelinton banned for drink driving and no batted an eyelid..

Our owners kill people for being gay and plenty defend them..

Tonali is/was in the wrong.. but what is worse....... him betting our the Saudi prince (who owns us) ordering Jamal Khashoggi to be executed?

Good points. However, it also doesn’t mean that everything is OK unless you think breaking the law or doing the wrong thing is fine so long as (you think!) no-one will find out and catch you.
With reference to Trippier/Saudis, two wrongs don’t make a right.

I agree it isn’t perfect, it isn’t great, but I guess it comes down to acceptable… because none of us are perfect and if we’re gonna be 100% strict then I’d call anyone a liar who says they’ve never exceeded a speed limit.

Might just got banned from driving for 6 months due to not giving up who was driving the vehicle to the courts… and in my mind I think that is a worse offence than betting, with the potential consequences that could come when in control of a vehicle.

All just my opinion mind, don’t want to come across all preachy, and know people might have different views.

The Tonali situation is different to Trippier. Trippier certainly let people down and I’d be fuming with him, but Tonali has knowingly screwed us over. He knew he had been betting and he knew the possible penalty.

I don’t want to see the prick in a Newcastle shirt ever again.

We could have bought someone else. This could cost us league positions or even silverware.

I am surprised people are defending him. This is worse than anything Ryan Fraser has done.

£160k a week and he’s sat on the bench, not because he’s physically unfit, but because of the off-field crap.

Just signing for the club doesn’t get you instant respect. Gordon has had to earn it. Tonali deserves no love at all from us. He’s got to earn it and I’m not sure how he can now.

Playing well in 3 games when he’s back should do it.

As fans we are all fickle!
