In regards to the earlier comments about corruption scandals in Italian football, one of the reasons why it keeps coming up is due to the way the Italian legal system works and because they have a history of aggressively investigating things. The Italian mentality is to assume there is corruption in everything and therefore it gets looked into, as opposed to here in the UK where the assumption is that because we are British there cannot possibly be anything underhand going on so there is no point in investigating anything. In Italy it is the judges themselves that perform investigations on their own initiative (which outside of football can be for political reasons but that is a different story) as opposed to the football authorities (FIGC/Serie A etc.) so there is no thought of damaging the image of the game and burying things under the rug
