I have to say MA that, personally, I don't see the relevance of how well keepers allegedly perform, I may be wrong but I always thought that they were there to make the occasional save! I'm not into 'their keepers made better saves than ours' or we 'created more good chances than they did'! To me that's just fairy tales. 'Chances', now that's a word where the definition of seems to vary from supporter to supporter or even from manager to manager). To show that it's Enid Blyton stuff to say their goalie had a worldie I understand that, according to these new fangled stats that say how many goals per game we should be scoring (based on our play), we are actually scoring more than we should be!
At the end of the day this is a results business and we ain't getting them, like it or lump it that's all that counts. Twas ever thus!

My point, mac, is that when JW makes a good save, fans on Social media see it as just that, a good save. Get up the other end of the park, their keeper does similar and it's crap play by us. They seem to want it both ways. Yes, the keeper is doing what he's paid for but a good save is just that, whether it's our keeper or theirs who makes it.

As an underappreciated ex keeper I totally agree Mac, goalies are there to save the bloody ball, and incidentally Wildsmith imo is our most consistent player over the last season and a quarter and PW didn’t recruit him. As you say, chances mean nothing

My point, which you both seem to miss, is that when the oppo has a shot on goal and JW makes a good save, he's brilliant. When we have a shot at the other end and their keeper does the same it's "because our players are crap". Can't have it both ways.

Can’t speak for rA but I don’t think I miss your point. However, as an ex accountant I’m irritatingly logical on this and in all cases a keeper save is ultimately the result of a failure of the other side to achieve their purpose (to score). I see shots saved as no different to shots put wide or high, the attacking side had a bloody big hole to aim at with a little obstacle in the way and they failed

Don’t quite share your ‘logicality’ AF. I’m over simplifying I know, but basically shots placed high or wide are misses by the striker whereas shots which result in great saves are the result of the last line of opposition defence doing their job.
My point though is that I don’t think us scoring just eight league goals in September and October and collecting just 5/15 home points this season is the result of opposition ‘keepers having a ‘worldie’ every time they happen to play Derby.
