Owner Simon Hallett boasts an extensive history in the investment management business prior to his arrival at the Plymouth 16,338 Home Park stadium.
The Bristol-born businessman was at Harding-Loevner for 30 years as co-chief Investment officer, based in New Jersey.
On the pitch, Plymouth brought in 10 new signings for their Championship survival with a clear emphasis on young talent to support the club's long term future & plans to climb the footballs pyramid.
Plymouth have been praised in a 2023 report on the state of English football's finances for 'proving success can be achieved at lower levels of financial risk'.
Argyle’s Football Sustainability score was the highest across the PL & EFL, based on a “strong" balance sheet, high levels of cash holdings & have virtually no debt aside from an interest-free loan that will be repaid through deductions in the basic award payments received annually from the EFL.
Last season Coach Steven Schumacher's side earned promotion from L1 with 101 points with Ipswich Town second on 98.
Plymouth Argyle now play a 4-3-3 formation with a central striker, either Ryan Hardie or Ben Waine having their attacking support from team-mates out wide on either side of them.
Schumacher deploys a midfielder in a central holding role with 2 others given the freedom to push forward while the 2 full-backs have been encouraged to tuck inside when the other one of them joins an attack.
They also do switch to 3-4-2-1on their travels, which last year was so successful that Argyle stuck with it for most of their L1 title-winning campaign as they piled up their 101 points haul.
According to Opta Stats, Argyle are 7th in the Championship in goals per game with a 1.6 average.
Morgan Whittiker the 22-year-old has netted 7 goals & 3 assists so far, he plays on the right hand side in a position that allows him to cut in onto his favoured left-foot.
The former Swansea City man has rediscovered his scoring touch to grab goals in both of his last 3 games after a 4 game drought stats show (during which Plymouth failed to win a match). So illustrating just how "critical" Whittaker is to Argyle’s threat in front of goal.
Ryan Hardie, the 6’2” Scots striker benefits from the service of 2 wingers, hitting the net 6 times & providing 3 assists in their 14 games played but is currently a doubt with a dodgy hamstring.
Re-signing Finn Azaz from Villa on loan for this season was crucial as the Plymouth midfield-maestro lit up League 1 last season with 8 goals & 8 assists in 34 games - so the deal was a huge piece of business for the club.
Azaz has already proved invaluable to Argyle’s respectable start this season according to Opta Stats. The 23-year-old’s 7.3 average rating per game is only bettered at the club by Whittaker’s 7.6 stats score.
The Pilgrims will look to Azaz to get on the ball early & dictate play so we'll be wise to lock in on their "all-action playmaker" & not afford him the time or space to be the creative spark that his stats say he can be !
So, Plymouths Morgan Whittaker just got his 7th goal of the season at Boro last time out in 3-3 draw playing in a 4-3-3 so the travelling Plymouth "Janner fans" will hold high hopes of another decent result at ER having sold out their full initial allocation plus an extra 800 seats given also being all snapped up by fans paying a further £58 each to travel by coach to ER 325 miles away with a 5am start for their 7 hour journey & 14 hour round trip ! 👏
Plymouth fans are paying on a reciprocal price reduction deal agreement with Leeds for this game too. 🌝

Can only see a Leeds win but football has this habit of kicking you in the wotsits.
Tis their Cup Final for sure, but hopefully full-steam ahead for us. 👍
Interesting CV Steven Schumacher, the Coach.
Qualified for the UEFA B License.
Qualified UEFA A License.

This 1989 result will do nicely, again.

They match up well against us and will be pumped to play us. Trap game for us. If they score early could be a long long day

Ah well,I thought you was different from the other deluded arrogant phookers on here, obviously I got you all wrong and yes , you are just another deluded arrogant phooker who thinks Leeds are on a different level to other lesser clubs. Shame on you arrogant Totty. 😒
Nah, Alf, just stating a fact proven by Plymouth fan Mark 58. 😂🤣
After the Pilgrims promotion which fixture did they look for first ?

A trip to the hallowed turf of Elland Road of course.
Joking apart playing us at ER is on most football fans "bucket list" still.
MrsO sends her 💕 too.
Take care mate xx
Alf - do you not accept that there are some clubs in the lower leagues that either due to their history, fanbase and sometimes in our case a dislike of the club where the other team and its fans lift themselves and try that little bit harder.
We have seen it in L1 and in the EFL.
Equally, when we play Chelsea, Liverpool or Man U we seem to up the effort noticeably too.
