I think he's finding himself in a role too far up the pitch.
I'd still have him in the team but he needs to play with the game in front of him now.
That seemed to be Clarkson's role, as a "quarterback" (as the media seems to call it when a ball player sits deeper in midfield) yesterday.
That's fine in theory but in practice, if you're going long, having one of your best passers watching the ball being kicked away from him seems daft.
