    Using your theory,
    the opposition bench is much stronger than ours and our bench is weaker than our starting 11. Our first 11 are not as strong as the opposition starting 11. So you have to presume the opposition bench is weaker than there starting 11 so any subs weaken the opposition as well as ourselves.

    Not my theory at all. The quality of the bench of the top clubs do not weaken the starting XI because they can afford to have 16 players who could all be in that starting XI.

    But it's all relative isn't it?! Weakening a strong team is not as disadvantageous as weakening a poorer team.
