If Luke phoned me and asked for advice I would say to him "Listen Luke, me old mate, you are 42 years old and on the verge of creating a legacy at Notts and enhancing your professional reputation considerably. You have developed what is glaringly obvious as a remarkable team spirit in the dressing room and have the backing of good people who have assurred you the squad will be strengthened where required. Stay where you are and work on this project, you have nothing to lose and at your age, everything to gain."

What would you say if he replied "fair points, but Swansea are offering a 300% pay rise"?

I’d say that working in a good supportive and appreciative environment is worth a lot.

Question would be, do they have the players to play his preferred system? We recruited to suit it.

The question would really be do their owners have the setup and desire to play the system that he wants to coach.

On the other hand I would imagine there are up and coming coaches, and even some more established ones, who having seen what we are doing would jump at the chance of coming to the Lane if there were a vacancy.

I was surprised to read somewhere that L2 managers are on something between £40 - 60k so you would imagine any offer from a Championship side would be considerably more than that. Obviously not knowing his personal circumstances I would still advise him to consider all aspects. If he was confident in the ambitions (and ethics) of Swansea then "Thanks for everything and best of luck Luke"
