Thanks folks, it’s looking like his agent and a lawyer are doing the final bits overnight. Not sure how far the actual compensation has gone, we’ve been told it’s not an issue. It’s only been six months or so since Russell Martin left, so the style of play isn’t going to be too hard for the squad to get to grips with, although we’ve sold a few. Michael Duff dismantled the concept that Williams and Martin introduced at Swansea. I hope you don’t get him, he’s bland and very boring to watch. Best of luck to you, should be announced Thursday afternoon ( If our chairman doesn’t start playing cockball, which he is known for ) Cheers.

When I started this thread I thought maybe that it was just hearsay, despite some of the more solid sources I had researched worrying me.
Have to say, I thought he would stay until at least the end of the season.
It's no coincidence that when rumours started about Oxford our form started to dip.
There was a really strange atmosphere at the Crewe away game too, which was also a catalyst for our run of bad form.
It's all adding up now for me. I think that when you have less control of which players you can sign, you're more likely to jump ship. Look at Conte/Spurs debacle for example.
I'm sooooo gutted. I've watched Notts in all divisions since I was 3 years old and been a supporter for 40 years and I can't think of a better period for Notts despite being in the 4th and 5th tier. Possibly Warnock period, but still the football wasn't as exciting.
Credit has to go to the owners in some respect for how they've turned it all around. However, their control over players seems to have worked against us this time.
We need a Thomas Frank style manager who is happy to have what he gets. I think Luke was happy with the arrangement to a degree, but ultimately, it wasn't enough.
So sorry to see him go. Worst start to a New Year I was feeling so positive about generally...and I don't mean just football. I'm absolutely gutted!!

Well, I'm sad that LW is going, but I feel positive our owners will bring in a good replacement. Who knows, he (or she!) might be an improvement.
Meanwhile, farewell & good luck LW. Mission accomplished at Notts.
LW will have much better defenders to work with and perhaps more input regards recruitment; but he's going to be up against far superior attackers - so who knows what will happen.
Notts under LW have provided perhaps the most most fantastic entertainment in all my (50+) years as a fan.
Obviously it will be disappointing if Luke goes but I suppose one has to recognise it is supposedly a bigger opportunity for him.i think the adage "the grass isn't always greener on the other side" should hang heavy in his thought process and he should look no further than Ian Burchnall as a point of reference. However it pans out I believe in the brothers as they seem to get the more important decisions right than wrong.!x
I think you’re going far deeper than is necessary.
He’s gone because he’s got the opportunity to manage at a much higher level, on much more money and much closer to his family home. No matter how much he loves managing Notts, it’s an absolute no brainer.
Our form dipped with the injury to Palmer and came back with a couple of tactical changes.
Completely agree with this, and your other post about being mature enough to see it for what it is.
We gave him a good opportunity and a great environment in which to ply his trade after a patchy start to his career. He gave us some excellent football which increased attendances and won us promotion in the most exciting way imaginable.
He worked himself into the ground for us, so much so that he gave himself pneumonia and had to be hospitalised a few days after the end of last season. This season he has got us to a league position higher than most of us imagined.
I thought he might stay until we got promoted out of this league before leaving us in League 1, which is roughly our 'par' position, but if he's had an offer from a club just down the road from where he lives, paying more money, getting him more recognition, then yes, it is pretty much a no-brainer.
He's been great for us, we've been great for him. Things don't last forever so don't try and make them last forever, just enjoy what we have/had, and remember it fondly. As BFP says we might get someone even better - the managerial appointments under these owners have got gradually better each time after all.
Forgot to add: he's a guy who has built his career from the ground up based on sheer hard work and application. Driving a bus, doing warehouse work and coaching young offenders.
How can anyone begrudge him his success?
