True… the average lifespan of a manager is 18 months 😳

Thanks to those two players and others like Jodi Jones, we've got a team that rarely struggles to create and score goals, which is the most difficult thing to achieve in football, and a virtual guarantee that you'll win some games even if you're a bit leaky at the back too. The task now is to address that defensive weakness and turn what's already proving to be a good side in this division into a great one.

Of course, a small minority of clubs can sign all the types of players they need in one go, but most clubs, including Notts, need to do it in phases, because there's only so much budget to play with. It's maybe not realistic to expect that we can make all the necessary changes required to the squad in one summer, but I'll be interested to see if the players coming in this winter and next summer reflect an awareness of the need for some defensive steel and ball-winners to complement the undoubted creative talent we've got.

Add some defensive solidity and nastiness to what we've already got, and we'll be a very good team at this level.
Agree but it is hard to see Langstaff playing for Notts next season isn't it. And McGoldrick will be 37 by then. We may well end up being quite solid at the back next season and a bit power puff up front if the signings we will need to make do not produce in some areas. Weird.

McG will be fine. He isn’t reliant on pace. He’s all guile and classy touches… he won’t lose that.
Macca will be tough to replace but I’d be confident with radar and a tidy transfer kitty to find a rough diamond or 2 who can semi fill the void of a 30-40 goal striker.
Let’s be honest, we replaced Rubens goals with DC.

Although Scott is out of contract, I'd like to think he'd also be there and at one point in goals to mins was more prolific than Langstaff last year

Well it's the morning after. Has anyone else woke up with a deep sense of loss, like losing someone you really care about? It's weird but he connected with us like no previous manager since Warnock has. Good luck Luke , We move on, fingers crossed stronger than before .

So would I. It worries me that we haven't got Scott signed up yet. Yes, he's yet to make a return from injury and prove his fitness, but for me he's the most underrated player on our books. He's been over-shadowed by the exceptional goal-scoring of Macauley Langstaff, but he's a striker of serious quality for this level who would gain even more importance if a bid came in for Macauley that we couldn't refuse. I'd take the risk on giving Cedwyn a fresh 2.5-year contract right now, because I'm sure other clubs will be aware of his talents.

    Yes, depressed.
Waited decades to see positive attacking football, which should be the norm not a rarity. As I've said, who else is going to play 3-1-5-1? Apart from Swansea now

Do you set out everyday to out-stupid yourself?

No sense of loss for me, I woke with the feeling that it's the first day of a new era, and the excitement of wondering who our new coach will be. For me, Luke Williams is now consigned to the club's history, along with Jimmy Sirrel and Howard Wilkinson and Neil Warnock and Jocky Scott and John Sheridan and all the others, good or bad. Everything in football is ephemeral, you must always look forwards, so as others have rightly said: The King is dead, long live the King!
