Apparently, his public criticism an allegedly poor, bone idle player contributed to his demise. Players, it seems, however useless, are beyond such criticism!

He probably turned out to be not as woke as they thought after catching hm eating a pork chop. Forest Green Rovers are a horrid little club headed by a greedy, pig troughing spiv. Always had time for Deeny with his attitude and straight-talking but managing is a whole different ball game than being a player and involves knowing how to get the best out of individuals. A range of good people management skills are a pre-requisite when trying to turn around underperforming teams particularly. Maybe Deeny, despite his passion, lacks the necessary experience and tact?

On the face of it, he was perfectly right, of course, to criticise individual players for their poor attitude and performance, but maybe not such a good idea to do so as publicly as he did. Difficult to know without being there, but maybe he was using too much stick and not enough carrot? I've seen it before in my own sector where successful but quite aggressive managers are sent to turn around under performing teams. It rarely works. The trick is to both be strong enough to deal with and turn around or get rid of the key "bad apples" whilst also being supportive enough to nurture the other team members to improve teamwork and motivation. It doesn't happen over night though.

Whatever went on behind the scenes, ultimately it's Forest Green's loss if they prefer to pander to underperforming players.

If you are a genuinely honest person, it must be difficult to be otherwise when it is expected of you. Playing professional footballers are quite an embarrassment in today's game.
They really are.
If the market in footballers was honest, then many players in Premier league's across Europe would need a second job to supplement their income. Some are atrocious and most are bang average made to look better by bang average markers..🤫

Thing is as a manager, you can't be truthful all of the time. You have to be tactful and diplomatic.

It would be easy to criticise a player who didn't play well, as Deeney did. But where does that leave every other player, fearful of making a mistake? Sometimes you have to say a player is injured when really there has been a fight in training or a player wants to leave, for example.

Management is about man management more than anything. If you're happy to throw players underneath a bus when you lose then you're not a very good manager. You pick the team, you pick the formation. If you're not happy with a player or a result, look at yourself first before throwing blame around. Problem with Deeney is he isn't able to do that, he'll publicly pick faults in others before himself - so he'll never make a good manager.

I wouldn't want a manager like that here. I remember us being linked with Roy Keane before CC came in. I genuinely want nothing to do with that type of character.

Totally agree. So many crap managers in the work place too who nick their reports glory or are clueless how to improve them or make them tick.

I hope Carlos looks in the mirror being selecting the team Sunday and selects Reach to be on the bench at best. He can easily say he’s carrying a knock or it’s tactical 😂
