Thought you golfers never went out if there's the slightest risk of rain or wind? Fair weather was the expression I heard.

The Irish Weather Service originally started this nonsense of naming storms which I suspect was to get upsides the the naming of hurricanes which has happened for many years.
Now the French weather service and the Danish weather service also name storms.
A couple of weeks ago I came across the list of named storms for this winter starting with A and going through the alphabet.

Angus Cooncil put out a statement today. Honest you'd think the apocalypse is nigh. Don't travel unless an absolute emergency, scaffies get a day off no collections, schools on notice of being closed; stand by your phones at 7 am. etc. How did we ever manage in the past?

We just got on with things.
I can remember Scotland being hit with the tail end of hurricane around 1968 which caused a lot of damage to tenement buildings in Glasgow resulting in some becoming uninhabitable.
From memory I think it was March 1968.
I can remember the noise from the wind howling throughout the night.

I think that you are mixing up golf with bowls which is certainly known as an old man’s game.
