Could you please give to a non businessman like me a summary of what exactly are the new benefits to the football club ?
After reading comments on here I’m starting to wonder if most on here would rather see Neerav and JAQ buying the ground.

You know who I’m talking about - the SHYSTERS that most on here describe them as.

Because yer can bet yer bottom dollar if that had been the case there would then have been a torrent of comments proclaiming there will be a supermarket on the site of Oakwell inside 5 years.

These directors can’t win no matter what they do
Frankly the comments aimed at them is sickening to see.

You are doing your usual deflection technique Nudge.

    The question was--

Given that we have moved from being in 50% shared ownership of the ground to being a 100% rental tenant on an increased rent on a short lease could you give to a non businessman like me a summary of what exactly are the new benefits to the football club ?

Whilst awaiting an answer to the above Nudge I would ask you to ponder this--

Oakwell Stadium last valued at £6 million

Cost to Barnsley Council to buy Jean Crynes 50% would be £3million.

Barnsley Council is spending public money and has quite rightly said the purchase has to be "cost neutral" ie they will get the £3 million to put back into the Council funds.

The method to achieve this is to establish a length of time for the club to repay this--lets say 30 years. Over a newly established 30 Year Lease let the payments be £3 mill divided by 30 which is £100, 000 pa.

The current rent paid by Barnsley FC is already £100K pa which would leave nothing for ground upkeep/ refurbishment/ maintenance by the new owners Barnsley Council, therefore it is almost certain the rent will go up.

To the football club - there maybe something in the contract that clarifies who is responsible for certain parts of maintenance - but other than that probably none.
But are we bothered about that ???

The benefits are for the supporters and there’s PLENTY.
We are staying at Oakwell FFS !!!
All this whittling on and on by some supporters about the club moving to another stadium - stirred up by Conway - has finally been put to bed.

And if this didn’t suit the football club - do you think Neerav and JAQ would have approved the deal ???

Yep brilliant news , we are staying at our stadium , the one we've played at since the 1890's , we used to own the whole job lot but never mind let's not get too picky .

As in my family have owned the house I currently live in for 130 years but now I rent it off a local landlord .

    What's not to like .

The old lease was coming to an end.

Notwithstanding the Covenant preventing other uses for Oakwell I cannot recall any statement by Barnsley Council, the Crynes or Parekh saying the were looking at moving away from Oakwell. It is true that The Investor Group's representative Conway did look elsewhere when they realised they couldn't build over Oakwell but the negotiations over this new 30 Year lease were not conducted by Conway.
The threat to move is a red herring.

Parekh and JAQ had to agree some kind of deal with the old deal running out with Jean Cryne looking to sell her 50%.

It helps that the Leader of the Council is a lifelong Barnsley fan. I used to stand near him in the Brewery Stand.

I suspect the Council are looking to establish a Leisure Zone linked to the Town centre stretching from the Metrodome through Oakwell, down to Pontefract Road.

Here's a scenario that could quite easily occur .

Let's say we had the high winds we've experienced these last few days and it causes considerable damage to the West Stand roof .

The contractors come out and assess the damage and they determine that the West Stand is now structurally unsafe and needs demolishing immediately .

Who would pay for a new West Stand ?

Without knowing the contract, you'd expect the council to pay because there will surely be some level of service/provision agreement within the contract. Whether council tax payers would be happy with this is another thing.
I'm not generally a big fan of council run enterprises but hats off to Barnsley council, they do appear to have made and excellent job of the recent town centre makeover.

Conway making noises about moving away from Oakwell is not to be trivialised Nudge.

Would it not be covered by insurance ?, who ever owns a property has to take out building insurance & I know its a world apart but so will be the premiums but if my roof blew off over the last couple of days I would be straight on my phone to my insurer to sort out the repairs .
