Well Byers has gone on loan to Blackpool so that puts that debate to bed!
Defender Josh Earl has joined Barnsley from League One’s bottom club Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old is six foot four and can play left-back, left wing-back or left-sided centre-back.
He has signed until 2027 with a club option for another year so becomes the Reds' second signing of the January transfer window after Donovan Pines.
Earl began his career at Preston North End, making 67 Championship appearances, having spent a decade in their academy including during Reds boss Neill Collins’ year as a player at Deepdale in 2009/10.
He was loaned to League One clubs Bolton Wanderers – who Barnsley visit on Saturday – Ipswich Town and Burton Albion before joining Fleetwood at the start of last season.
He has made 72 appearances for the Cod Army, who are currently 11 points from safety, including all of the 2-2 draw at Oakwell in October. He has six career red cards including two this season, in which he has also scored four goals.
Collins said: “He’s a very good player – good age, good experience.
“It’s an area in the team we need support in. He can play back left wing-back, left-back and left centre-back. That is valuable at any level.
“We’re delighted to have him. He will make the team and squad better. I was really impressed when we scouted him and played against him.
“We haven’t had anyone who can play left-back which restricts our ability to change systems.
“He is good on the ball and can go past players.”

So what’s Cadden been doing ???

Have you seen him play?
Cheltenham must be giving up the ghost but Shepherd might learn more quickly at a relegation threatened outfit. Good luck to him hope he makes it in the pro leagues,
Slightly surprised about Kacper going on loan but it seems like Collins doesn’t think he’s ready just yet.
Only the French kid to offload and all the summer replacements for Thomas, Kitching and Anderson will be gone. Apart from the borrowed McCart.
You have to scratch your head at BFC mentality sometimes.
Not unhappy to hear that Styles is outgoing. He spit the dummy out a long time ago, his contribution has been below expectations for sometime. Im even surprised championship clubs are still interested.
One question remains, why on loan?
We did the same last season with the Shyte from the den, they sent him back as the valuation was too high. So what’s the sense in doing that again?
If Sunderland rate him in the same way as he was rated last season he’s going to be back with us again with the titty lip on again.
Can’t get my head around that one.
GET SHUT!!
Earl will be a good signing I think. Good experience but also at a good age too.
A back 3 of Pines, Earl and MDG looks a lot more intimidating now with the height of Pines and Earl being added to it.
Still think Pines won’t be seen for a couple more weeks but I reckon Earl could slot straight in on Saturday.
