Islay, sorry to tell you that flying a national flag doesn't equate to having any political beliefs, just pride in your nation. Even if that nation is run by an elected terrorist organisation bent on the destruction of every Jew on the planet.

British students overseas probably wouldn't fly Union Flags because they're embarrassed by it - more likely to be flying the flags of their actual nations rather than a struggling union in which one nation holds the other three back.
