the Football Association, for alleged breaches of betting rules.
The 23 year-old player is currently serving a 10-month ban issued by the Italian
Football Federation [FIGC] in October 2023 for breaking betting rules in Italy.
Tonali joined Newcastle United from AC Milan in July 2023 for £55m
Tonali was banned by the FIGC for betting on matches involving his team's Brescia
& Milan, & FIFA later granted the Italian Federation's request to have the ban
extended worldwide.
The FA's charges relate to seperate allegations during Tonali's time as a new player
for Newcastle United.
" Newcastle United acknowledge a misconduct charge received by Sandro Tonali, in
respect of alleged breaches of FA betting rules, " the club said on Thursday.
" Sandro continues to fully comply with revelent investigations & he retains the
club's full support ".
His current ban means Tonali is not eligible to play again until August, & will not
feature at Euro 2024.
The Italian International who was fined 20,000 euro's [£17,380] was initially given
an 18-month ban, which was reduced after he agreed to take part in an 8-month
" Therapeutic Plan " to help " Recovery from Gambling Addiction ".
This includes Tonali making at least 16 public appearances in Italy, where he's
expected to speak to young players, about the dangers of gambling.
Tonali is allowed to train alongside his new team-mates during his ban.

Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali has been handed a suspended two-month
ban & fined £20,000 for breaching football association betting rules.
The FA announced on Thursday that an Independent Regulatory Commission had
imposed the sanction, which will be in force throughout the 2024-25 season, on the
23 year old Italy International, & warned him as to his futureconduct, after he had
admitted 50 offences.
Tonali, a £55m summer signing from AC Milan is currently serving a 10 month
Worldwide ban for similar breaches imposed by the Italian Federation [FIGC] in
October last year.
Tonali seems to have got off lightly from the Independent Regulatory Commission,
probably thought the Italian ban was enough. ?
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe, has said Sandro Tonali has taken a voluntary
pay cut, because he felt the " Guilt " of being banned so soon after joining
Newcastle United.
The player made 12 appearances for the club, before he was hit with the 10 month
suspension for illegal gambling in Italy.
The player has not been receiving his full £120,000 per week salary.
Personally - I would say, he should not have any salary at all.
I think Newcastle should take AC Milan to court to claim something back for his fee. Surely they knew of his addiction before offloading him.
He’d been at it way before Newcastle signed him.
