A man has been charged after a Leeds United supporter was attacked outside Norwich City’s Carrow Road stadium.

A second man has been bailed following the incident, which occurred after the first leg of the Championship promotion play-off semi-final. Two arrests were made on Sunday. On Wednesday, Norfolk Constabulary confirmed a third man, in his late ****s, had also been arrested on suspicion of assault and a public order offence in connection with the incident.

Graham Riches, 50, has been charged for an assault on an emergency worker, common assault and possession of Class A drugs. He has been bailed to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on 7 June 2024.

A man in his ****s was arrested on suspicion of assault, grievous bodily harm (GBH) and a public order offence and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning. He has been released on bail to appear at Wymondham Police Investigation Centre on 13 July 2024.

A statement from Norfolk Constabulary read: “One man has been charged and a second man has been bailed following an incident in Norwich yesterday afternoon 12 May 2024.

“Two men were arrested after 2pm when a man aged in his 60s reported being punched outside Norwich City FC’s stadium in Carrow Road. An object, confirmed as not being a knife, is thought to have been thrown at the victim who suffered a cut to his chin.

“The victim was seen by paramedics at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.”

Leeds said in a statement: “Leeds United condemn any violence at football matches, which has no place in the game.

“The club would like to thank the emergency services for their quick response to the supporter and the swift action taken following the incident.”

A Norwich statement on Sunday read: ”Norwich City can confirm that a Leeds United supporter received medical treatment following an incident that occurred outside Carrow Road following Sunday’s Sky Bet Championship play-off fixture,”.

“The supporter was seen by paramedics at the scene and did not require further medical treatment.

“Two individuals were arrested by Norfolk Police in connection with the incident. The club will now work closely with the police to fully investigate the incident, understand the facts and take appropriate action.”

Sunday’s match finished goalless ahead of the second leg at Elland Road on Thursday.

Sadly, still plenty of idiots attending games 😡

Surprised to read that the injured Leeds United fan who fell from top tier at Chelsea's stadium in our cup game is the hooligan who ran onto the pitch at Hillsborough when we played Sheff Wed & punched Chris Kirkland, many seasons back.

Sickening, that kind of violence outside a normally safe ground at Carrow Road on a chap trying to enjoy his day.

Much as a lot of society would wish it otherwise a lot of young blokes (and some older ones) like a ruck.

Glad I had my time as a young man going out in the 80s/90s , yes there was some dickeds but very very rare a knife would be used.
These days it's like the norm to carry a blade.

Still unacceptable behaviour, but I'm quite relieved that this now appears to be more of a case of unplanned idiot feckwittery rather than any calculated attack involving weapons that have no place anywhere in wider society.

Obviously, there may well be Turkish fans of Norwich (and other teams we might play), but stewards/police have to be aware that flags and the suchlike are not necessarily being displayed for entirely wholesome reasons and respond accordingly

If the first time they appear in the crowd is when that team plays Leeds, I think it's fairly safe to assume they're looking to incite trouble and should definitely be taken down and removed from view.

If such flags are routinely present at other games, then it's less clear although common sense on all sides should prevail.

    But it probably won't.

All makes sense but the ability to turn the other cheek is sometimes lacking too. Ignoring it won’t give them the reaction they are looking for which will mean they are less likely to do it in the future.

Love our fans but save to say we have a few morons too both home and away. Seen some fairly unsavoury stuff from at times.

A tiny part of me also thinks if consenting adults want to beat the crap out of each other then leave them to it provided they don’t involve anyone else.
