I completely agree that liking someone is not a pre-condition to agreeing with them. Assessing the weight to attach to someone's opinion necessarily involves assessing the person, however.

Morgan isn't a scientist. He's someone who has made a living out of an aggressive style of journalism that depends upon taking extreme and provocative positions. I take that into account in determining the weight that I am willing to attach to scientific opinions expressed by him.
