Thread: O/T Mandatory National Services to be brought back in by the Tories

  1. #21
Back in 1960 when national service stopped, the population of the UK was about 52 million, it is now about 68 million. Also in 1960 they were all male or female and mostly British. Today we have a different society where it would be a logistical nightmare. But at the end of the day it's just another load of ****e that will never be implemented, get ready for plenty more in the coming weeks

Too close to common sense thinking there, Johnny. Wait until the boomers (who largely didn't carry out any service) realise the idea will evolve into some weird post-school club where they spend half the time doing maths to fulfill Sunak's other half-baked idea to improve our younger generations.

The reality is that the vast majority of all our generations are pretty much fine as they are. There are useless 60 year olds, and there are gifted, hard working 19 year olds. We could always improve education and opportunities, but the tired line about the country being broken is nothing but right wing horse****, pulling at the free time and unspent anger of (mostly) older voters. I dare say in 1960 that many older men thought youngsters then were soft.

    A vote winner.
And then should that work, the royal commission report will no doubt be published, highlighting a lot of the points on here and it'll be
""Ahhh sorry, we can't implement it"

Didn't comment on whether or not they are good examples, just that they did it.

Just another example of gimmick politics that when you dig in to the detail hasn't a chance of working to any great affect .

The real tragedy is that Cleverly knows It's a gimmick .

    “So why not us?”

Would suggest otherwise. It’s all in context comrade.

So why not us, context being it wouldn't be a new idea peculiar to the UK
