There was some very naive decisions made last close season about our ability to defend (I would love to know who said we could manage with what we had!).
Probably the same people who thought it was a good idea to sign an injured striker, unbelievable Geoff.

In our case the possession stat is literally pointless. The stat that counts is how many times the opposition put the ball in our net, which is why our performance last season was pants.

Without a roof on the Kop we'd get wet but we have one.

And thats just what a waste of time our stats have been.. Most of our possession has been fannying about at the back, with the blessing of both Williams and The 3 stooges. Neither of them have ever said during post match interviews, if in doubt put the ball in row Z. Maynard was questioned once after Baldwin had gifted a goal, And he said, thats not the way we play...

But we could easily have ended up both with Morias and McGoldrick playing... Assuming Morias had discarded his walking frame..

Well, high possession got us promotion and to the top of L2.
Then we lost the central cog in the whole machine - Palmer. Then we lost Bostock to injury. This lead to the defence passing to themselves or endlessly back to the keeper (I'll never forget the embarrassment of that game at Harrogate) because our patterns of play just broke down while all the time we were still wedded to the principle of not giving the ball away.

The thing is many on here think the club and management teams base a lot of emphasis on getting this % as high as possible as the priority and it’s not the case. The key measure is xg for and against and the club seem to actually view that above the actual points we gain as it‘s the best way to measure performance. I can’t see us knocking it around the back as much with platt in the middle, He may have done it at Barrow ok but it’s a different ball game in the league, I think we will change a little this season.
