    Thoughts On This

Personally I think there's more to this than meets the eye. What do they do when they get to a large hotel? Demand that no one consumes anything containing nuts for the fortnight they're there? Every restaurant they dine in for the entire duration of their holiday? Surely it's easier as a business to turn them away than to try and absolutely guarantee the persons safety?

This is a very difficult one. On a plane it is possible to restrict the consumption of peanuts but whether two or three hundred should be deprived of being able to eat nuts, even sesame seeds on a bun can cause problems, is another matter. I would probably come down on the side of calling for the nut restriction but as pointed out in the previous post a hotel or say a week long bus tour or even a cruise is a whole lot different.

This brings you into whether the experience expected and the needs of a disabled person should greatly affect the experience of the rest of the people. The whole ethos of experiences for the disabled is to replicate where at all possible the experience of the able bodied. Often this is not possible without affecting in some way the able bodied. Disabled access to rides in theme parks etc. has proved controversial in the past where the disabled person is always allowed to the front of the queue. Again I have no problem with this as such unless it is abused by allowing more than a carer or sibling to join said person .I have seen real anger at one disabled person accompanied by a huge number of others all allowed to stay together. This could be was many as 10 or more accounting for parents, grandparents siblings and friends. A difficult one indeed.

The instance that has affected me is also a very difficult one. Having bought a couple of tickets for a show costing in excess of £50 each I found the experience severely affected by the close proximity of a number of disabled people. The poor souls were severely disabled and all, unfortunately, were afflicted by Tourettes' style outbursts. These were frequent, almost constant and loud and to be perfectly frank totally spoiled the experience of the rest of the audience but, perhaps scared, certainly reluctant to say anything, nobody did. In this case the disabled party may well have got the same experience as the full audience but that experience was spoiled or completely ruined for the majority of said audience. Is that acceptable nowadays? I don't know but to repeat it is a very difficult situation and it takes a 'brave' person to complain.

Why get on the "sun express" and expect everyone to comply with you.

You can't expect everyone to help a what if situation.

You should expect help/understanding with a happening situation.

The assisted travel at airports seems to be abused regularly.

And why blue badge holders need free parking along with privileges when parking is beyond me

They have a disability they ain't all nurses and skint.

There is no way ANY establishment can absolutely cast iron guarantee that there is no nut traces anywhere on their premises and no one should ask them to. Funnily enough on the BBC today.

Agree. How do you stop the law being involved? Would the person who has the disability be able to take personal responsibility for their condition? Could there be a categorisation of the degree of severity of their sensitivity. Can they say what will affect them? It's a really serious problem for sufferers. What information could they provide about their sensitivity?

I am allergic to white fish but when I am out for a meal I do not expect people in a restaurant not to order haddock and chips because I might suffer an allergic reaction.
I have antihistamine pills to take should this happen.
In my opinion the world has gone mad if this person expects everyone on a plane not to eat peanuts because his daughter has a peanut allergy.
This person should arrange his family holidays driving by car instead of expecting everyone to dance to his tune.

This whole me, me, me thing grips my ****, it's all about this Gen Z entitlement epidemic that's going on.

If they want to be addressed as they, them - ze, zir - cat, dog - ****, ****er or whatever we must comply with their skewed view and we must all do what we can to keep them happy; or as they like to call it 'safe'.

Same with this peanut thing, one person wants to dictate to 200 others what they can and can't eat, it's ridiculous. If his daughter's so sensitive to peanuts that she can't sit in row 26 of an Airbus if someone in row 1 is eating a peanut butter sandwich she should probably be living in a bubble because she'll come closer to peanuts than that every day outside in the open air.

If I'm on an aeroplane and someone sitting beside me asks (politely) if I can refrain from eating or drinking anything, and gives justification for it, I'll do it. But if someone three rows away, who my food / drink is going nowhere near, asks the same they can beat it. The crew was right to prioritise the majority of passengers by removing the individual from the potential hazard - a hazard they themselves identified. It's for the individual to take necessary precautions without effecting the comfort and safety of others not for the others to suffer inconvenience and / or discomfort for the individual.

Same when somebody sits or passes near me with that ridiculous tomato sauce on a pie. Stomach nearly empties, disgusting stuff but I say nothing because it's their choice and they're entitled to make it.
