I'm not sure where you get the 'Free' being the Radar way and ££ not being the Radar way. We paid plenty for Jatta, Macca wasn't free either. I am sure we paid for others. We also saw this with RR who we knew we wouldn't keep, but let him go for free rather than sell as they thought there was more value in getting promotion than we would get from selling.
The Radar way isn't about how many £s we spend, but making sure that we get the maximum for every £ we spend and not spaffing money up the wall. So, if a goalkeeper costs £££, but Radar thinks they are worth £££££ then I can see us being in for them... persuading them to come to us may be the bigger issue.
I would agree mostly, but I am not sure how much they factor in resale value. That surely comes into it, but I think if they see a player that costs a lot (wages / fee) and is aging but can increase our ticket sales and give us a better chance of promotion then they will do it. I think McGoldrick may have been in this category (I am not convinced that they would let sentiment sway them to a huge extent). Likewise, they will forego a transfer fee if they think that letting the contract expire will increase our chances of promotion (RR and Wooton). I just don't think that the model is rigidly buy cheap and young and sell on at a profit.... but I do think that is the preferred route if they can.
They’ve said it so many times I don’t get why people don’t get? It’s about getting as much value out of their budget as possible and using data as much as possible to achieve that. Of course they will try and get players that they may see future resale value in buts that’s not the only/primary approach.
Chey Dunkley is a crazy signing for this level. Chesterfield are really throwing the kitchen sink at back to back promotions. I'm getting a sense of deja vu though, they did this the last time Cook was there. He got them to L1 after spending huge money, and then he left and they dropped like a stone. It will be interesting to see how it ends up.
Data and value is all good and well providing you get players in. We saw last season the damage dithering and holding out to our principles did! Poor keeper, couple of poor signings and an ageing creaking defence. Please let's not have a repeat
