    England v Iceland

Anyone else waste nearly 2 hours of their life on this? Should have known better really.

Yet again, lots of possession and passing backwards, sidewards and (very occasionally) forwards but no incisiveness. Iceland deserved the win, showed us what proper defending is and did generally well when they broke.

We looked rusty, clueless and pretty dire in the final third. Of the very few pluses I thought Alexander Arnold again looked good and Gordon was at least direct and proved he can get down the.wing and beat defenders to put crosses in. Just a pity that most of his crosses were so poor and that no one was in the box to meet them in any case.

Everyone raves about Foden but maybe he is only good for his club as I thought he was pretty anonymous (again). Mistake prone he may be but Maguire will be missed this tournament -though at least his injury explains his absence whereas I think Southgate might wish he had not dropped Grealish.

I know it's early days and players still need more time to gel but seems same-old, same-old from Southgate. Maybe Bellingham may inspire them once he starts. Someone needs to.

I delighted to say Omeg buddy, NO I didn’t ! Even better, I didn’t watch the preceding game !!
I suppose I’ve lost a bit of interest with Southgate and England, albeit I expect I may watch as the tournament progresses.
No surprise for me to see Iceland defeated us.
    Thanks for summary though.

Not watched an England game for years, too boring, sideways, backwards, 20 passes in your own half mostly between the centre halves before getting it forward, I thought Southgate still managed England, when did Carlos Corberan get the job?
Lose the will to live watching that type of ‘football’

It’s so frustrating having such talented players so subdued by such a conservative and timid manager.

We had the same under Sven, another who had a rigid, boring structure.

People rave about Bobby Robson but I never felt the love.

The only manager that ever allowed the flair to come out was Venables.

Until we have a manager who tells the players to go out and express themselves and play off the cuff and that he’ll shoulder the blame if things go wrong then we are stuck with this.

Even listening to Southgate is a trial, the man bores the f u c k out of me.

Couldn’t agree more and loved Terry! Bomber hit the nail on the head when he compared Southgate’s style to Corberon’s which is dull and boring. You could have the best players in the world ( Southgate has ) but if managers like Southgate and our Carlos are set tactically in their ways you’re never going to be on the edge of your seat. Don’t get me wrong Carlos has done a great job with some poor players but the point is the football would never be orgasmic!
