Maybe not always for the better I agree, and I also agree about the mostly rubbish TV pundits.

What I was on about is this.
The coaches of smaller nations like Georgia Slovakia Slovenia (and Turkey last night) have excellent coaches who know how to set their teams up to try and get a result against "better" teams.

Some of them have had great success with 442 and I've loved watching well drilled defences with 2 banks of 4 moving forward in a line and back in a line. That very nearly dumped Engerland out by the way.

Last night was different because the Turks played 523, very unusual and it was brilliant to watch their high pressure high intensity. When defending one of the Turkish 5 would pressure the central player in possession, stepping out to make it 433 then stepping back to keep the 5 in a row. They did it time and time again and the Austrians couldn't figure it out.

I know some people think formations don't matter but they do make a difference depending who you're playing.

The teams mentioned above have got brilliant coaches and players that follow their game plan to the letter.

We got the guy from Kilmarnock who wouldn't choose Ryan Gauld cos he doesn't like him much, wouldn't play our best striker and can't change things during a game.
