It's a reasonable point, but there will never be many occasions where an instinctive, last gasp challenge is made to block a shot outside the box. I don't know what's better for the game, consistency or pragmatism - and I've heard the phrase 'soft penalty' a lot over the years, which maybe speaks about us not always wanting to see the referee point to the spot as quickly as he might when a player drops to the floor under seemingly little contact. It divided ex-players, and it clearly divides fans. As someone else asked, how would people feel this morning if it was the Dutch instead, and that took the game to 2-0 - if the rest plays out the same and you lose 2-1 with that being the decisive moment?

We would probably be debating it if it was the other way round.
It’s a foul so a penalty.
We have had worse decisions than this happen to us in the past in fact a lot worse.
It’s football it happens but for some to say we didn’t deserve to go through is ridiculous. We do deserve to be in the final.

So now, other than having arms positioned like penguins defenders can't stick out a leg to block a shot.

Had it been the other way around ie an England defender and a Netherlands penalty there would have been national uproar

Why are you so bothered about it?
It’s happened and we’re through isn’t that enough for you or is the real issue deep down you wanted us to get beat like gru ?
We are the better team why can’t we just enjoy it instead of looking for constant negatives.
