I did wonder if regretting the failure of the attempted assassination of a previously democratically elected head of state might just stray into the realm of politics , or do you class the lack of marksmanship to be more of a sporting issue ?

If that's the case, based on your twisted logic , you might consider the person who was killed died as a result of a sporting accident.

There will no doubt be conspiracy theorists trying to claim state involvement, but I don't believe that. Far more likely to be a random opportunist nutter. Early reports seem to suggest that the shooter was a 20-year-old registered Republican, but with a history of donating to left-leaning causes, so there's some deception and/or pre-planning going on there somewhere. Presumably the perpetrator wasn't an advocate of free speech, tolerance and gun control!

From what I've seen, Trump responded with typical resilience and bloody-mindedness (not to mention bloody earedness) and Biden's condemnation of the attack was heartfelt and genuine. Good riddance to the shooter.

Anybody who finds themselves advocating the attempted murder or murder of any candidate standing in a democratic election has completely lost the plot, whether they hate Trump, Biden or anyone else.
