, He had plastic beer cups thrown at him by some English supporters , the level of booing directed as Southgate at all staduims across germany was disgusting , the staduim announcer would read out the Engakd team , the starting 11, then the Engand coach , then there was a significant amout of English fans booing gareth Soutgates name being read out in the staduim - never seen that before - he was then criticised by former players who he considerd as friends like Lineker and shearer - no wonder he was sick of it
Some English fans and press will never learn that it is their toxic behaviur that is Englands downfall , and until it stops we will never win anything
Any new manager coming in will be mad to want all this, its insane

It’s a decent paid job, any National manager gets all types of stick, live with it. Southgate is a nice bloke but has won zero. His tactics are poor, his choice of players is bizarre and he was just not up to the job of winning.

McClarens, Southgates was nothing compared to Graham Taylor. If you want to call something vile, disgusting just look at the treatment GT got from the SUN

I think it’s got Potter wrote all over it and I think he’s probably been waiting for it and turning down other jobs.

I agree with others, Southgate’s had not even close abuse to what other England managers have had. To say he needs a rest because of it is crazy, prem managers are under scrutiny day in day out, not just a handful of weeks every other year.

They are but the England manager has the whole country on his back and no matter what you are paid nobody wants that.

I mean its likely the same in Brazil, Italy & France too.

Dont under estimate how much sway pundits have look at Neville bloke basically wanted a riot at Man Utd during Covid

On BBC you could tell Thomas Frank is a good manager you listen to his views and then next to him he has loud mouth Richards who shouts but says nothing of interest.

Let's face it Southgate did ok as England manager but failed at the final hurdle !!! Winning trophies are all everyone remembers and in eight years that was not achieved. I doubt if any of the top names being quoted will take the job or for that matter even be asked. The FA hierarchy in itself needs to be dismantled they should take some of the blame for England's failures thier appointment process is floored and they will probably recruit from within. I'm just hoping Holland doesn't stay because he is a big part of the problem.
P:S Don't be surprised to see Southgate take the USA national managers job.

Funny that no one else has either for 60 years in fact all have done worse, even in 66 we were fortunate the 2nd Engalnd goal never crossed the line, wouldnt be given today

It'll be truly hilarious if you appoint Lampard, you'll be struggling to even qualify.

But surely the players are too good regardless of who the manager is?

If anyone wants to appreciate what Gareth Southgate did for England, I thoroughly recommend the James Graham play Dear England. It’s coming back (home?) to the National Theatre next March and also the Lowry in Manchester:

I wouldn’t be averse to Lee Carsley getting the job - he did win the Euros with the U-21s not long ago, so knows a lot of the young players.
