    Learning to ride a bike?

I want to teach my 7 year old grandson how to ride a bike and I’m looking for tips?

I dont remember having stabilisers as a kid, I have memories of dad holding the saddle and walking then running alongside me.

I know some of you are keen cyclists and wondered if you had any advice on the matter?

Both my granddaughters have been on a kids ‘how to ride a bike’ course; about half an hour to an hour each day for a week, I think it was. It worked really well for them. As it is school holidays, there may well be similar courses in his area at the moment.

I managed to fail that bloody thing twice before passing.

Our school was at a busy crossroads, an absolute death trap, no way they’d allow tests to be done by there now.

Struggling to find and kids course near me for training though, sadly.

I remember having to take that test as at our school you could not come on your bike unless you had passed it and as I lived 2.5 miles away with no bus route I did not want to have to slep 5 miles a day to get to and from and establishment that I hated with such venom that the day I left is one of the monumental moments in my life.

We have had quite a few experts on stationary exercise bikes though who could provide useful information maybe!? 🤔 😎

For ours we used a jacket with a handle on the back to hold them upright and get them used to the centre of gravity, it worked great but wanting to do it in the first place is half the battle. Balance bikes are useful, the clue being in the name.
