Depending on the criteria - although he was a fan favourite, but given his was a record breaking transfer fee, I would throw Tony Agana in to the mix... and how has the man wall Darren Caskey not been mentioned, more talented than some of the rest, but a real toxic influence at a time we needed to pull together.
Caskey was such a wasted talent. He had so much ability but was a complete mess. I remember one time he just randomly decided to take a corner with his left foot and bent a perfect dipping ball into the back post, sort of like the washed-up football equivalent of Ronnie O'Sullivan.
I recall a post match review from (I think) Huddersfield. It was a cartoon and hilarious. If I remember correctly, they showed them having to widen the changing room doors for Caskey to get in and out. I wish I could find it.
I hated Caskey, mainly because how much he wasted a talent that most would kill for.
I remember he’d been absolutely awful game after game then scored a free kick.
He ran to Z block and pointed to the back of his shirt like we should be grateful to have such a player.
Tool.
The one & only Tony Agana. What an absolute waste of money. I actually felt sorry for him in the end. I think a lot of Notts fans did as well. No matter how hard he tried it just never came off. The only player I have ever seen tackle himself. Would have the ball at his feet under control & lose it somehow
Brian O’Callaghan. Carlisle away. Jesus that was bad.
I’d say my least favourite player to play for us was Mark Fotheringham. Played unbelievably in the Galatasaray friendly. Said the the Nottingham Post he wanted us to ‘Go Up as Champions’.
Then, opening game of the season, we piled in with 20 minutes to go (Gary Liddle I think got sent off) away at Sheffield United and after the game, in front of the Notts fans, he just pointed at the ref and shouted he was to blame. From that second I knew he was a joke. Spent the season being a disgrace.
Funny about Agana I had fell out of love with football at the end of the 70s packed up playing and watching but my mate at work convinced me to go and watch Notts again and it was against Spurs in the league cup. We won 3-0 and Agana scored twice and I thought at the time he was excellent. Ozzie Ardiles got sacked after that match and I got my love for football and especially Notts back. Funny old game.
