Also, given Schar’s age now… then having an international available now and having that succession sorted this window takes off the pressure next summer, or possibly even Jan, when prices will go up if we HAVE to bring a player in.

Guehi is a player for today and tomorrow (when Schar is past it). We currently have Schar, Burn and Kelly as options for CB which isn’t too bad considering Botman’s return, so long as we have a normal injury situation this season. I’m hoping Bunce will prove to be one of our best additions this window and if he can sort this massive problem for us then he will be.

I don’t think we can be sure of Schar being available as much this season, Botman out till Dec/Jan, even the likes of Lascelles could be out till next year and at this stage his level of ability is probably not even at where we want to aim for this season (Top 5 given no games in Europe)

I’d love to see a RW, I’ve been loudly a fan of getting better than Miggy, but I think not having some quality depth to defence will cost us more than not having a better RW.

I think we need someone in this week, Schar hobbled off on Sat night… Howe apparently not concerned but just goes to show how light we are… imagine starting the season with Burn and Krafth as our CB pair… capable for sure, but not the platform of Botman and Schar (which was a big part of the season we finished 4th)

I think we should offer our best and last, today, and if not accepted then move on… but for the sake of experience in the Prem and being fit to play now… I’d go up to 60m for Guehi, even the 65m, because we know Eddie likes to slowly bring people in… so having experience of the league will help on that front… anyone coming from outside the Prem will take longer for Eddie to name on the team sheet.
It wasn't so much the defensive frailty so much as the unusual run of long term injuries to the whole team in general but to the defence in particular.

Yes we do need a centre back plus a right winger and another up front, but the rest of the squad, assuming we only have the average run of injuries should be able to give the rest of the teams a run for their money and at least prove that gobshyte, Jamie Carragher wrong again.

Would be an excelent addition imo, but it's dragging on like the Botman signing.
We need to get it done or move on.

We've submitted a 3rd bid, apperently on Sunday.

Fact it hasn't been rejected has to be a good sign.

According to reports its £55 million upfront with more in add ons.

To me it feels like Crystal Palace and possibly the player are hoping for another “bigger club” to come in. Palace would love a bidding war but that never materialised.

I don’t know much about this lad 60m seems excessive to me though English players are always a higher premium.

£60 million seems about fair in this day and age to me to be honest.

English international coming off a great campaign and has plenty of prem experience.

He was argualby Englands Player of the tournament in the Euros. Would certainly je a signal of intent if we managed to land him.

I wouldn’t make a 4th bid. I see Palace have rejected Fulham’s 20 million bid for their other cb (Andersen). Could be a good sign for us???
