Still not sure about Jatta. His goal record is looking decent so that's a good measure. But, if Lina had been switched on, he's spurned that goal. His other chance he took poorly. Great position. Stayed onside. But caught on his heels.

His hold up play is average. Too often his second or third touch is a reckless foul near the edge of our box.
Not sure about Tsaroulla. Not in game enough. Similarly Edwards. Hit one pass that looked poor but ended up dropping sublimally behind the full back. Was it a fluke?
    Grant tidy but quiet.
Suggest you come to the games, Edwards was great, full of energy and really made it difficult for Grimsby to play out from the back, really impressive performance from him.

Not so far. Obviously we'll need to judge the new intake over the course of a season, but based on what we've seen to date, Platt and Bedeau look far more physical, aggressive and proactive than Cameron and Baldwin. In short, they just look like better defenders.

Baldwin was a better defender than Cameron, but both of them looked like good ball players trying to play in central defensive positions, rather than players who could actually DEFEND as their primary job.

    Opposition forwards?

Platt & Bedau (especially Bedau) are leaders, something we were sadly lacking last season

Funny. It's interesting watching how we have slightly changed philosophy without completely sacrificing our footballing principles.

Only seen bits to be honest as I had a rough night and overlaid for this mornings game. I agree that he was. I am still unsure what Cameron was to be honest I could not see how he was a captain or a first pick but I guess that's why I am not in football! I see we are at Swindon away next. I had the misfortune to attend that game in person last season. Will be an interesting barometer as Maynard has played them before. Cameron was a challenging watch that day. Jatta came on and poked one home.

I think Bedeau is an obvious upgrade on Cameron. Cameron would have been very badly caught out last night with Tsaroulla so high (and blowing out of his backside after about 45 minutes) and Crowley, who was predominantly positioned on the left of Robertson/Hinchy when we set up defensively, allowed to drift.

I’m really glad Maynard has simplified the middle CB role. Platt isn’t as quick as Baldwin and that’s been recognised, so he’s not been asked to try and recycle possession when he gets dragged out wide; that was where a lot of Baldwins mistakes came from.

Having said that, although I wouldn’t have him in a starting back three if they were all fit, I do think if you played RCB next to Platt and in front of Bass (who isn’t shy in giving it out) due to a Macari injury or Macari playing RWB (of which he’d be perfectly capable) I think Baldwin would be a much better player and suit us quite nicely.

You can't assess a game properly watching on TV.
Do you remember that sublime pass from Edwards out to the left wing? Looked wayward, then veered and dropped perfectly. I'm not convinced it wasn't a fluke. It was Liam Bradyesque.

Edwards looks to be a very good addition
If we can keep Dan and JJ it should be fun this season

Bass - One good stop, some decent catches, some aimless long kicking. Massive upgrade on what we had - 7

Macari - Solid if unspectacular, not as sold on him yet as some are - 7

Platt - Aggressive on initial attacks and good in the air. Worried about those straight ariel balls which keep catching us out - 7

Bedeau - A bit of a monster, doesnÂ’t fill me with confidence with the ball at his feet but defensively brilliant 7.5

Jones - All action typical display from Jodi. Caused all sorts of problems on the left and right, lucky yet deserved goal! - 8

Robbo - One ***** challenge in tracking back early on and then injured - 6.5

Crowley - Wonderful performance and worthy of the MOTM. Could have slipped others in three or four times but held on to the ball too long - 8.5

Tsaroulla - Much needed balance on the left, still doesnÂ’t seem fully fit but he was involved throughout - 7

Grant - Solid but I still havenÂ’t seen much to write home about. Drifted in and out of the game for me, will hopefully see him affect games more soon - 6.5

Edwards - Surprised to see him start further forward but what a good decision that was. His energy, calmness and clever passing were instrumental in how we played - 8

Jatta - Got a goal and set Jones up for his shanked goal. Got in decent positions and was a handful for the back line - 7.5

    Subs

Hinchey - Mmmm, not sure from what IÂ’ve seen so far. Think thereÂ’s definitely something there but he was easily beat at the set piece and I feel he just doesnÂ’t look comfortable yet. He does have some good moments, hopefully with more game time IÂ’ll see what others are seeing - 6

    Austin
    Didzy
    Scott
Palmer (that pass out of touch to no one was one for the collectors album!)

All 6. Game was over by time they arrived.
