That’s just plain ridiculous but it sums them up Kets.
You probably know I’ve got a place in Tenby, just listen to this.
They brought in legislation 3 years ago that allowed them to increase Council Tax for second home owners and we ended up paying double.
A year later they increased it to treble Council Tax so my annual bill was going to be £10k.
It then became apparent that there was a loophole and that you could apply to go onto Business Rates if you were renting out your property for 72 nights a year so most people applied to go onto Business Rates because as a small business it meant you paid zero…..nada, not a penny.
So they shot tgemselves in the foot because most people were happy just paying the normal rates but the increases forced people to look for legal loopholes.
They’ve been mooting increasing Council Rates to quadruple normal rates.
Local business owners are aghast at what’s happening because holiday home owners are so peed off that they’ve put their homes up for sale (if they don’t do the 182 nights of bookings now required for Business Rates) and this has reduced the number of holidaymakers visiting so businesses take less money.
The zealots on the local council have been spouting off about seeing these properties “return to local youngsters” which is ludicrous, most are in the £300k to £2m category and will never be bought by local first or second time home buyers.
It’s also annoyed local people who have inherited a property who are now being stung by this tax.
They’ve invited us into a consultation, which I’ve replied to, in which they want our opinion on how to take things forward, I’ve no doubt this will end up in even more taxation.
Their rules on refuge segregation are beyond belief, you need a university degree to even start to comprehend them so you can imagine the chaos when a holidaymaker turns up for a few days.
It’s another example of when “little people” are given a bit of power.
