I would rather have that Simakan, tbh.
Guehi is solid, but nothing more. Not worth £70 mil. Thats world class price, not solid PL defender price.
Lots of sources saying the deal is more or less off.
The suggestion is that he is the only one Eddie wanted. Now if that's true, this is partly on Eddie, too, as you can't afford to be that dogmatic and narrow minded about one player.
We definitely have other targets but the price is going to go up for any of them.
Have to say that, if the deal does, in fact, collapse, I'm glad we're not paying £70 million for him.
Aye, this deal is dead - good news!
I would rather go with what we have than spending £70 mil on a average CB.
Not so good news for Mitchell though, he looks like an idiot now.
Hes probably not an idiot, but hes clearly not good at player recruitment.
I've replied to your other htread.
But Viking, to say he's not good at recruitment based on one playe in one window - you're talking rubbish mate.
That's like saying Peps a ****e manager because he loses a few games.
He is highly rated across the continent, give him some time and I think he'll come good.
Agreed. The meltdown is bound to be spectacular. I think the transfer strategy at the club is right under the PSR and the club has actually told us how they operate (will only buy if it improves on what we have already) but the vast majority of our fan base refuse to listen and think we’re being ‘left behind’ if we don’t sign someone….anyone….?
Well, we have a raft of players now who these same supporters would agree aren’t good enough for us now, are on big salaries and that we can’t shift. This is the thinking at the club IMO and the plan is only to buy players we are really sure about and combine them with the young players coming through.
I think the Minteh/Anderson episode will have doubled down this strategy.
Now being reported that Simikan is close to a deal to go to Saudi. No way that our "backup" plan is now looking to be out of reach because we didn't move with any urgency. Hope the reports are premature but I can already hear the boos ringing out at SJP this weekend if we don't get anyone in.
I have yet to read another fan forum suggesting that this player is worth 70 mill. Even the Palace forums. PLEASE WALK AWAY FROM THE DEAL
As I said on another thread, I worry that we'll cave at the last minute and overpay massively....huge pressure on the player's shoulders if that happens (and Eddie's, too, if he was THE one he wanted).
I'd really rather we didn't get him now.
