If youre going to judge a player on individual skills and statistics, do that.
However, to be a goat candidate you will need to win trophies.
Trophies isnt a parameter in my book really. Its nice and its certainly not a draw back.
Many great players havent won anything, and lots of mediocre players have won several trophies.
Totally agree.
Igor Bišćan & Djimi Traoré won Champions League medals with Liverpool. One I'd never heard of the other was one of the worst players I've ever seen on a Premier League pitch.
Harry Kewell got a medal too despite spending more time in the treatment table than Callum Wilson.
What makes a player a 'One of the greats' is career of that defines a generation.
Shearer as an example had 2 career ending injuries and changed his style to carry on banging in the goal, ending his career as the Premier Leagues all time goal scorer.
You know the discussion about 'who the best Prem Striker of all time' conversation the Mongs in the MSM bring up from time to time is a load of horse shyt because they alway bring up Rooney, Henry, Kane & Aguero.
the best striker is the one with the most goals = Shearer.
Never comes up.
So I don't listen nor care anything commentators or pundit say. Their comments are irrelevant.
I live in the gulf so we get the z list of pundit like jason mcateer and other biased muppets to accompany Gorilla Mitts and Grey.
So the nonsense these clowns spout is right out of the backside of a goat.
Still wonder how these people get paid for this level of nonsense.
Good luck to them I guess, stealing a living in broad daylight.
Goals, games per goal are the markers as well as just watching the player. Players that score from positions that noone else would - there’s noone better at that than Shearer - he was lethal.
I’d go as far as to say that number of trophies could even be a negative as it means the player had a very good team, manager, etc around him, thus meaning more good goal scoring opportunities for the player.
