    Facebook

Is it just me? I don’t post on Facebook but the posts I receive make you reach for the vomit bag. Two of late were:
    1. Daughter of someone we know who is a
gymnast. The woman posts events then waits for every comment - oh she’s amazing - oh what a talent blah blah!
    2. Posts from people we know who love to tell everyone which luxurious part of the world they are in - then wait for the comments - oh it’s paradise - oh you lucky things etc etc.
    3. Posts from couples who are telling each other things like - I love you! Why the f uck don’t they tell each other rather than all those connected with their accounts?

Just don’t get it! What next telling everyone your Hamster has died and having a remembrance page with love hearts 🤣

Maybe it’s just me but find it weird!

Youre right Al, it is just you. Bet you don't even post photo-shopped selfies or photos of every meal you're about to eat either. Wierdo.😂

You might not post on your own profile but you’re quick enough to post on others! 🤡😂

    More of a voyeur really.

That’s my point Omeg - some people are self obsessed! Watch most of the posts and it’s all about the responses for these people - oh you lucky thing - oh it’s fantastic - she’s gorgeous - fantastic achievements blah blah!

Telling your girlfriend/wife/dog/husband they are beautiful or you love them for others to see and respond is weird in my eyes! These people post and are probably sitting in the same house as them FFS! It’s weird!

Surely your private life should be private!

Facebook is great and awful for different reasons. Made some great contacts and friends from collaborating musicians and songwriters to old school friends I never thought I’d see and hear from again. Downside getting in touch with old school friends I never thought I would see again

Some people have hundreds and thousands of Facebook “friends”, I purposely limit mine.

My best man died earlier this year and his business partner (who I didn’t know) sent me a friends request, I reluctantly accepted prior to the funeral because I didn’t want any perceived irritation at the funeral.

A decent enough bloke when I met him but not someone I’ll ever see again so he’ll get culled at some point.

Me and my best man worked for the same company for a few years and one of our bosses from that time also sent me a friends request at that sad time.

I couldn’t stand the bloke when he was my boss so I declined his request.

There are a few others who I don’t really think of as friends who seem to be more like watchers as they don’t interact and so I think I’ll have a culling session in the next day or two.

I’m only friends with a limited number of relatives as well, the older I’ve got and the more I’ve seen them the less I’ve liked them so I decline requests.

My favourite interactions are actually with my old Sunday football mates because we had a real bond.

This site and one other site I occasionally post on that is niche some what, and that's it. Do not bother with anything else.

We perhaps often do not agree Al, but in this regard I agree totally with what you are saying. We, as a family, do not do Facebook. I recall my son, at a very young age blurting out, “Facebook is for idiots,” we use those words often in a jocular way because of what we hear people do on such media.

You mention life and privacy and it is quite alarming how people can very slowly leak information about themselves and their family which provides others with information that they would not want out in the public domain.

Even people who you would expect to know better let their guard down on occasions. Why do people look for acceptance, why do people go out there seeking comments about themselves? It is beyond me why but clearly it makes them feel better about themselves I surmise.

Totally get that Mick, but you’ve highlighted an important thing that makes Facebook work. You’re in control. You don’t have to interact or have as a “friend” anyone who is a pain for whatever reasons. One thing I didn’t mention was the CPTSD support group. It’s been a lifesaver to have a group of people who actually understand and validate how it affects your life. Also I pretty much learned music production through contacts on Facebook, some who have been very supportive. It’s pretty much what you want it to be. I thought at one point I would ditch it but it’s become quite important to me for the reasons I mentioned.

There will always be positives about anything but don’t get all the stupid comments and posting s hite just for self obsessed responses.

Only this morning I received from someone I know telling his partner - I love you babe and you look beautiful. She was probably in the same room so how embarrassing FFS!

Glad my young daughter is not on it! My old man always used to say - anything private should stay private and he was right!
