News that Philip Schofield is to be back on tv as a castaways on C5. If he thinks that he will ever regain anything close to his past popularity I think he will be sadly disappointed.

That said, his case is vastly different to that of Edwards. Yes, he lied to ITV about his involvement with a much younger colleague whom he had known since he was 15 but if what he claims is true and he began a relationship with this man when was 20 then what he did was unsavoury and stupid but not illegal.Given that Leonardo DiCaprio gets away with a bit of ribbing for dating women far younger than himself, I can understand Schofield claiming that there was an element of homophobia in his treatment by the press.

He lied to his colleagues and bosses when he clearly should not have done and he certainly assisted the young man to get certain jobs. Was it this favouritism that he was hiding as well as a relationship with a much younger colleague? I can imagine if the situation involved a hetero***ual "star" of his age with a much younger woman, concerns would have been far less.

The moot point in all this is surely whether he can be proven to have groomed this young man or not. Apparently, the documentary also allows him to put his side of the story so I'd personally keep an open mind until then (except I'll most probably not be bothered to watch it&#128513. Rehabilitation? Maybe he might get some level of it. Never watched This Morning so no interest whatsoever in that regard but just think he deserves the chance to put his side. Whether or not he gains some public sympathy from it or whether he does a Randy Andy and presses the self destruct button is up to him but he is, of course, a very experienced presenter and this is him in control of his monologue to camera, he isn't sitting across from Emily Maitlis.
