Double down on a failed policy and increase the price. It's mental. The extra paid goes straight into the profits of the retailer. An increase in alcohol tax to replace the minimum pricing, not that I am in favour of this, would at least to go the government to theoretically spend on alcohol education or to the NHS to offset any increase in alcohol related treatments required. Folk have said they will go over the border and stock up with drink but anyone above the central belt doesn't have this option as it is not cost or time effective. Mail order alcohol coming from England isn't affected so retailers like Laithwaites etc. will sell at the same price in both Scotland and England another thing that makes the minimum pricing stupid.

I've always been a patriotic Scot despite the SNP who are useless and the worst possible government for Scotland and I have thought honestly that moving to England would be a good idea but won't do it for many a reason. In general, however, nanny state policies like this, the nonsensical, downright daft green policies, the way Covid panned out, the envious, avaricious policies of the left masquerading as wealth redistribution etc. etc. have left me more disdainful of all government, politics and politicians both Scottish and UK National. I'm fair scunnered by the lot of it and the lot of them.
You should send an email to your local MSP complaining about it. If the SNP MSPs in Dundee and beyond get enough complaints from their constituents the ‘penny might drop’ especially with the Scottish Government elections coming up in May 2026.
My maternal grandfather used to have a saying that if you hit someone hard enough with a hammer eventually it would sink in. My grandfather’s hammer should be getting put to good use at present thanks to our dimwit Scottish Government SNP and Green MSPs.
