You can understand that the owners used the stadium in a way to protect the money they have put into the club, they have earned their wealth and have a right to use it how they see fit. I would hope that there is something contractual in place that protects all parties in some way, but my gut feel is that if the Stewarts want to, they could screw the club over in some way.

It is the same as the squad investment this year. A huge cut in playing staff and the using of the transfer fees to minimise the impact of relegation are understandable, in that they protect the owners and the club financially. What is questionable is to then pretend that hasn't happened, exacerbated by a statement in a public forum about how very good the squad budget was as well as comments about reinvesting of money raised via transfers into the squad. I hope that TS realises now that SE might give his best to get the most out of the actual budget, but we may have gone too far with the prudent approach.
There is a lot that we don't know so we can only speculate based on what we are told.

There isn't a 'club' that is a separate entity to that which Stewart owns. If he decides to jack it in and put social housing on the NYS site then there's bugga all left and nothing you or I could do.

The council could do something about it and I would imagine that there is something in place to stop that ever happening.

It's called covering all your bases. Very clever but, I seriously cannot see the Stewart family doing the dirty on the town's football club.
