He's paid back £6k of freebies, including Taylor Swift tickets.

In other news, Lord Alli, who gives most of the clothes, glasses and homes to Starmer. Is being investigated by parliament for not fully declaring his interests.

You get the feeling that Starmer is going to be hounded from office, as previous government aside, I've never seen a newly elected PM get this level of scrutiny from the press.

I really dinna think he's up to dealing with it.
His PR machine seems woefully lacking.
I think the attack dogs in the MSM have been waiting for this, basically since their crony and alpha dog was "mercilessly hounded from office" for no greater crime than being an incompetent, self-serving grifter who lied every time he drew breath.

I can think of fewer than a score of politicians in my 50+ years of interest that I’d trust, or meet for a pint.

Of course we the enfranchised, are ballot box fodder, fed only what spin doctors and largely malicious media manipulators want us to hear, be that positive or negative.

I still recall a short-lived fictional serial some time ago - probably 40 years back - with Fulton Mackay as a cynical, hard-bitten newspaper editor “inducting” a keen, idealistic cub reporter in the 1930s (?) with the terse phrase, “All our readers are interested in is kissing and fighting”. I believe that still continues, it’s merely the sources and delivery mechanisms that have “improved”.

    "Our colonies".
Maybe I'm wrong, and I confess I'm not fluent in "edgy" but do I draw the inference that you think colonies are a positive thing ?

Another New New Labour charlatan trying and failing with “ordinary blokey bloke who likes fitba” schtick. Brians Leishman, what a zoomer.

    Holyrood Magazine (virtual version, today).

    “What’s your earliest memory?

I think it was the 1988 Scottish Cup final – Celtic vs Hearts, I could be wrong. Celtic scored twice in the last couple of minutes to come from one nil down to win two one.

    What end were you in?

The Celtic end. The Hearts fans in the PLP [Parliamentary Labour Party] are starting to let themselves known to me.

But what I remember of that day is the sun. It was so warm, and I was on a crash barrier thinking I was glad I was there because if I wasn’t I would have probably ended up about 100 yards across the terracing. When Celtic scored there was this massive sea of bodies moving behind the goal.

That wasn’t my first game, but it’s the first I can remember.”

IT WAS AGAINST TSMSTID YOU FUUCKING WALLOPER. Celtic played Hearts in the semi-final and that made it difficult to face the same sack of sh1te in the final. The Plastics did the usual thing of treating a twice-replayed semi-final against us as their cup final, and predictably collapsed like sodden cardboard at Hampden. Asreholes (anag.)

    Wrong ‘un.
