What a player. What a team that was. Should have won a World Cup in 74 or 78..kroll,crayf rep, Haan..can still t remember them in that 74 World Cup as we had our first colour tv ..wanted them to win as our England team didn’t qualify and hated the jocks..r.i.p

    Yes what a player.

That Dutch side was surely the best ever side other than the 70 Brazilian side.

I’m not fussed that they failed to win a World Cup, they were awesome to watch in that 74 to 78 period.

I must admit, I was also a closet Sweden fan in 74 with us not at the WC, Ralf Edstrom their centre forward was a terrific number 9.

Wonderful side. Neeskens was a more than wonderfully talented and skilful player. I loved him. RIP

Only capped about 46 times but they were most likely proper internationals with something at stake.

And Rob Rensenbrink. Cracking side. That Dutch team from the '74 to '78 era was the first foreign football team I became familiar with and played the kind of football I wanted to watch as a kid; fearless playground football.

So much better than the stodgy s hite England were serving up at the time. I was 6 in '74 and 10 by '78 but I was old enough to appreciate it for what it was. Such a pity the only things they won were admirers. RIP Johan Neeskens.
