    Rotherham match

It would appear that Sky have had a change of mind and brought forward our Monday night game against the Millers to the Friday before with now a 7.15 kick off , personally I would have preferred 3pm on the saturday as normal , but the tv call the tune , the EFL sold our soul to the devil !!

Seriously adding up the cost between the SKY subscription, and season tickets, plus associated costs for next season with all these changes.
20 games to watch, and just a “Now and again visit” to Oakwell. Seems like a plan for next season
    Wife finishes work at 1815.
Not even gonna attempt it I think….

So 20 games a season for each club on Sky …… no 3pm Saturday means that if we get 10 home games outside the 3pm window, it seems a maximum of 13 saturday 3pm kick offs will occur, this also lower if the good people of SYP don’t keep their batons out of the decisions….
Also All opening weekend, final day, and midweek fixtures in the EFL will be shown live, as will all games played on Bank Holidays including Easter, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
The matches played in League One and League Two during international breaks will also be available live.
Is this correct? SB, you will work this out ….. am I Right

The new agreement between EFL and Sky is for A MINIMUM of 20 league games a season, either as main match coverage or on Sky+, plus all Carabao League Cup and Bristol Street Motors Cup games. The FA and Premiership have separate agreements. No Sky TV games can be shown live at 3pm Saturdays if any FA and Premiership games are scheduled for then.

So yes Jules it works out on average a MINIMUM of ten home and ten away league games per club but the more successful/ ratings friendly the club then the twenty games will be exceeded, as decided by Sky. Sky can move KO times and dates around a weekend to suit their schedules and KO times midweek.

The deal is for five years from the 2024/25 Season. All EFL opening, midweek and final day matches will be shown live, as will all games played on Bank Holidays and Third/ Fourth Division games that may be played on international weekends and all Play Off matches.

Third and Fourth Division clubs get an increase of 25% in TV income, Championship clubs get 40% more.

I was under the impression that this second fixture move was due to it being an international week. Which is a bit daft given they’ll have known this when moving the fixture the first time. Must say I prefer a Friday night to Monday but the kickoff time is quite strange…

Said it many times about this sky deal already, it’s going to hurt season tickets numbers drastically from next season onwards. Some clubs bound to struggle like crazy in a few years when their season ticket numbers have dropped off a cliff. I hope the EFL sky deal was worth it in the short term because I can’t see it being good for clubs in the long term.

In money terms Barnsley's TV Sky Income goes up from £2.9 mill pa to about £3.6 million.

Championship clubs go up from £8.6 mill pa to around £12 million

I too feel that ST's are going to take a hit at this level as a consequence of this tv deal .

Whilst Sky have covered the EFL for almost 30 years now other than a couple of games it never really put fans out to the extent this deal is doing today .

What's remarkable is that nobody has picked up on that there are massive differentials between supporters of PL club's and fans of lower league club's .

Supporters of PL club's had their 3 PM Saturday afternoon match experience decimated decades ago but in return they saw their club's earn £100m plus sums of money and the league transformed in to the best product on the planet , at least in many respects it soften the blow .

The way I see it is that the supporters of league one and two club's are seeing their 3PM Saturday afternoon match experience decimated for peanuts by comparison .

This tv deal ain't going to see the two lower leagues transformed in to a better product so in many respects they've been handed the worst of both worlds .

The real sting in the tail is that Sky , the EFL and the club's never asked for consent to do this from the very people it will affect the most .

They really don't give a feck about fans even at the very level they should be working harder to keep on-board .

Clearly the Covid season has conveniently been forgotten about when even the very top games in the PL were reduced to absolute nothing without fans in the stadium .

Maybe they need another reminder and one I think they will get at this level and in my opinion when fans walk away as I have done they take some attracting back and very often they are gone for good .

Some really great points there. We have good seats, and part of walking away will be losing these and not getting them back, but as Mrs Jules said when folk walk away, seats will be available round here on a ad hoc basis. Couple of “on the beer afternoon” trips on the train now and again…
Adding up all the costs, (i already have Sky stream, so its not a massive increase oer month to upgrade). Its a no brainer for us next season. We gave up away games (other than the dog botherers away and dont miss it.

I know from what the wife says that there are others on ****ter who feel the same.

The reason Sky and BT rolled out the 12.30 PM Saturday lunchtime kick off was for no other reason than tv audiences in the far East could watch a live PL match at primetime on a Saturday Evening over there .

That clearly doesn't work in league one or two , I think it's safe to say there aren't millions of Barnsley or Rotherham fans in Singapore .

It's mind boggling stuff it really is , you have to question the owners of the lower league club's mindset in agreeing to this deal .
