There are rumours around that Rachel Thieves is on the verge of doing a u-turn on this misguided policy.
Maybe that would have suppressed the petition numbers?

People want to moan about the England managers job, but what about moaning about something that really matters, the Labour plans to stop fuel allowance for the elderly.
As of today only 200,000 people have signed the petition that will be presented to parliament on budget day, that is pathetic. That is 0.004% of over 18s living in England, yet people are willing to bring up a war from 80 years ago or mentioned those that fell fighting for our country, but most people can't even be bothered to spend 2 minutes to sign a petition in the hope that we might be able to stop this vile government policy.
There will always be excuses for not doing such a simple thing, or not writing to your MP or you might agree with the policy. It is up to the individual but it says a lot about modern society.

Or they might just think its a total waste of time
Both I & my wife had letters today, telling us who can claim Winter Fuel Allowance, we can't.
Why waste money on sending these letters out, when they know our state pension we receive, so over being able to claim pension credit etc.
Same with both of us having letters from NHS to have covid jab, had them already.
Again waste of money on sending g out these letters.
Just to be clear, the government isn't 'stopping' the fuel allowance - it is introducing means testing for it.
It may be that they had the concept in post 23 on this thread in mind.

Burnt mine within 2 mins of openin it kept me warm for 0.00001 of a milli second
All that sheeeite they spilled to get in was all bawlax - working people yeah right 😡
I thought about mentioning it when this subject was last raised, but had better things to do at the time.
The problem with the winter fuel debate is that it is framed in terms of pensioners all being war heroes who now sit in front of a candle with fingerless gloves.
The reality is that many current pensioners have access to defined benefit pensions that younger people can only dream of. And it's those younger people who have been paying tax to fund a hitherto un-targetted benefit.
