If you go anywhere in public using an illegal firearm you forfeit any excuse for getting shot.
Would you sympathise with a rapist who then gets raped.
    No.

Give Diane Abbot her due(an absolute clown by the way) but at least consistently vocal on anything happening to coloureds.(Wrong but consistent)
Pity we don't have similar MPs asking questions of the ****s who assaulted polis woman in airport and the councillor wanted white protesters killed!!

I've carried a firearm legally in public, it's scary, but if someone was to have pointed an illegal one at me and threatened to shoot (nobody carrying a legal one ever would) I was trained to shoot to kill them because that's what you do. You knew the first thing that was going to happen was you would get locked up though.

I've also had a gun pointed straight at me, even scarier, and when that happens you do what you have to do to protect yourself and those around you. I did end up getting arrested after that one because the guy with the gun ended up in hospital (and eventually in jail) but at the subsequent board of enquiry all those involved were acquitted because we acted correctly and with minimum force. It was said that had one of us been armed in that incident and shot the guy dead the outcome would still be that we would all be acquitted including the one that was armed.

What's happened with this policeman who shot and killed a known and possibly armed criminal who was putting officer's and public lives directly at risk was exactly what the procedure calls for and was 100% correct. Had he gone to jail there would likely be much more in the way of repercussions and many more armed officers would be handing in their licenses.

The naming of him because family demanded it....disgusting.

The CPS is only supposed to take case to court if 70% chance of prosecution.....jury 3 hours not guilty......him being taken to court disgusting.

The polis boy facing internal investigation is un called for.

How are jury's selected in this country, do the defence or prosecution have a say?

I think that the defence decides who are going to be selected from a group of about 20 people called for jury service for a trial.

In both Scotland and other parts of the UK the defence and prosecution can both object to a potential juror and objections are split into a finite, small number, with no requirement to give reason for the objection and further non finite numbers where cause has to be proved. In Scotland in a criminal trial the jury pool requires at least 30 present to chose the 15 member jury and a lesser number to pick the 12 member civil jury. In England the 12 member jury is picked from a smaller pool number.

    Thanks for the information.
Earlier this year my wife received a letter informing her that she had been selected for future jury service at Campbeltown Sheriff Court despite being too old for jury service. I phoned the Sheriff Clerk’s office at Campbeltown and I was advised that she should never have received the letter as she was exempt from jury service in Scotland due to her age. The person in Campbeltown further added that the staff in the Sheriff Court office in Glasgow select the names of 60 people in the Kintyre and the islands area without checking their age before sending out the letters.
In my opinion the Sheriff Court office staff in Glasgow should check the age of people before they send out letters informing them that they have been selected for future jury service in their local Sheriff Court.

There is no upper age for serving on a jury in Scotland. The upper age limit was reduced by the Criminal Justice Scotland Act of 2010. There is however an exemption to all citizens who are 71 or over but they must apply for said exemption. No reason has to be given for jury exemption for those 71 or older.

Maybe the Sheriff Court in Glasgow doesn't have the information on people's age?

According to the Sheriff Clerk’s office in Campbeltown the office in Glasgow do not ask for information on people’s age.
