I'm saying we let this this losing out on big money for our assets happen way too often. Seemingly more often than other clubs.

Its not how that particular situation was handled, its how the situation was allowed to occur in the first place. Again.

To quote the much used phrase. This wouldn't have happened at Peterboro. And yes you can say where has it got them, they are still in L1, but many many times do you see lower league clubs sell their stars for big money and try and build with the proceeds, rather than us who:
    i) let their stars run down their contracts and leave for nothing and then moan they haven't got any money and can't afford to buy decent players; or
ii) give them away cheap and justify it with we would have got nothing in 6 months time or they were free so selling for 100k is a good profit when any other club woudl have sold them for 3m
iii) sell cheap even when a year or more left of their contract and think getting 1m is wonderful when any other club would have sold them for 3 times that and the buying club fans think they have bargain of the season and sells them for much more a year later.

Or to put it another way, compared to that, how often have we sold someone and thought wow, we've diddled someone there they are nowhere near worth that much. We've ripped them off.

Peterborough have a trading deficit of £20m and haven't achieved anything like Rotherham have in the last 10 years. It's a basket case of a club.

The business model here has been far better.

Currently, a lot to be concerned about here though. I blame the Warne haters

LS, I;m still waiting for you to tell us how you convince a player to sign an extension, when their Agent can get him twice wages( maybe more) at another club, big signing on fee and more chance of playing at a lot higher up in the league............................what would you do??
Don't forget JCH did exactly above and walked away for free when Charlton offered £800.000 for him in Jan, so Peterbro lost out.

Sell for big bucks, not the peanuts we usually accept, and insist on a significant sell on fee so we make more from the even bigger fee the next club get.

Watkins at Exeter and then Brentford for example. Toney, Bellingham maybe. And as mentioned before bit part Sweden international Gykores cashed in by Cov for £23m + extras rather than being kept on for another year to then leave for nothing. Bit part Sweden international Johansson signs 1 year extension with acceptance to go for peanuts and no sell on clause a year later. Stoke will get all the financial rewards, just like Luton get 8m for Ogbene for having him for 1 year.

Add in the previous comment from another poster about not only do we give players away but we also overpay for mediocre players it does show our transfer and contract policy is an in efficient, money wasting shambles. Are you saying it isn't?

Viktor signed in 2020 on a two year deal with an option for a third having never played a game at football league level.

Season 2020/21: Plays 19 games in a season where he's number two to Blackman, Does well and should have played more but doubt any 'big bucks' offers came in at this point.

Season 2021/22: Plays 30 games, again he does well but also loses his place to Josh Vickers and only gets back in for the promotion run in due to Vickers getting injured. Does well enough for the club to take up the option of a third year. Would a 'big bucks' offer come in for a keeper who hadn't definitively established himself as the number one in League One? I doubt it.

Season 2022/23: Now in the final year of his contract, He plays 44 games and becomes an absolute superstar and is the main factor in us staying up. Does the club take what they can get for him in January and risk almost certain relegation? Would anyone be willing to pay 'big bucks' during January for a keeper on a free in the summer? He's offered a contract and after negotiations inexplicably agrees to sign a two year deal with a release clause apparently set at 900k. At this point the club have three options, agree to that deal, sell him immediately for probably less than 900k, or let him go for free in the summer. Tough choice...

Season 2023/24: Plays 46 games and almost single handedly prevents us possibly finishing on a single digit points total. Release clause is met by Stoke, Leaves a hero and a legend.

I'm not saying our club never make errors with regards to contracts and transfers but in this instance please tell me at which point in those four years should the club have taken a 'big bucks' offer for him, and which 'big bucks' offers did we turn down?

    Great summary. 👍
